For what do you used ark? You don't need to. Just go to Settings->Appearance-Splash Screen and there just hit install from file and there you Go!
Well, I don't like to install things without knowing what is included. Therefore I first use ark to open the archives. I didn't know that it is a kind of installation package which I can install from systemsettings. I always copy/ied things manually. I'll try again. But nonetheless - shouldn't it be a valid archive which can be extracted with a standard archive manager?

I'm using it on Kubuntu 10.04.

The archives I downloaded now (this time not rapidshare) do work, they are valid archives I can view with ark. Thanks.
