If Emerald is dying, use Aurorae! Aurorae works quite well, is easy to learn, and you can use Aurorae Designer to preview your themes and edit the properties.
Well, I'm a Compiz user and haven't yet been able to make Aurorae work well enough with it. :) I do like the way Aurorae works though.
