Description: Oxygen-Molecule is a theme for GTK+ applications to provide a uniform look when used under the KDE 4.4 desktop environment. It was originally based on the kde4.2-oxygen (modified) 0.3 GTK theme by Dennis Schmitz (which was itself based on work originally by Kim Kahns) (url: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/kde4.2-oxygen+(modified)?content=99926)
On top of the original theme, I have made the following changes: - changed colors to match default KDE 4.4 color scheme, including hue adjustment of all pixmaps - reworked all of the pixmaps and changed measurements for improved visual appearance - created new spinner buttons, since the original spinners often looked mismatched with the surrounding pixmaps - linked the GTK theme with the Oxygen icon set (thank you Craig Drummond for showing me how to do this).
In addition, beginning with version 3.1, Oxygen-Molecule features a “flat” mode which disables the background gradient. Some GTK+ apps don't play nice with the background gradient used in the default Oxygen-Molecule theme, causing patches of the wrong shade of grey to appear in the background. Oxygen-Molecule's flat mode solves this problem, and can be enabled on a per-application basis.

I am also providing my source graphics files (created with GIMP) for anyone who wants to try making their own color variants.
Notes for the source graphics files: layer names in square brackets indicate the color from the KDE color scheme. There are many graphics files missing... for these, you will just need to edit the theme PNG files (not included in source graphics download--get them from the theme).

3.2: - Redesigned color scheme to use less extreme shading. This looks better for both KDE and GTK+ apps, in my opinion, and also helps everything to blend a little better. For users upgrading from version 3.1 or earlier, please set your KDE color shading to 50% (see step 7 in the installation guide). - Tweaked menubar gradient to look better for wider windows, but at the expense of the appearance of narrower ones. My reasoning is that most people use their GTK apps either fullscreen or as large windows. - Adjusted the size of the active menubar item selector, and further fine-tuned the color of the menu item selector.
3.1: - Added new "flat" mode, which removes the background gradient from windows and tabs. - Fixed the tree view colors. - Increased spacing between tabs to better match the Oxygen theme.
3.0: - Updated theme to match KDE 4.4 widgets and shading. - Almost all pixmaps were completely redone. - Countless tweaks, including thinner buttons and entry boxes, new spinner buttons and better tab spacing. - Removed unnecessary clearlooks reference. - Changed theme install location in documentation from /usr/share/themes to /usr/local/share/themes.

Hate to bother you, but I've seen you mention a couple of times that there is someone somewhere working on a GTK version of Oxygen (from what you say it seems to handle at least color settings, which would mean no need to constantly revise it for each new release like Molecule). I'm very interested in this, firstly because of its implications for KDE users, but also because you don't plan on updating this theme for 4.5.
So all I'm wondering is who exactly is working on it, or if there are any references on the web or in a forum where I could glean the slightest bit more information on the subject.
This might finally mean the end of our whining over QtCurve and using Gnome applications in KDE, as Molecule's wonderful work already was for the default theme for me.

I still find your version better than official Oxygen GTK theme, at least in the final graphic rendering.
Official theme has better insider handling but the final graphics don't satisfy me.
I love that you handle the title bar gradient while they simply drop it to a flat titlebar. Ok the gradient has some issue with window resizing, but most of the times it looks simply wonderful!
Also I prefer how the fonts render in your theme rather than the official one.
I'm still using Molecule under KDE 4.6RC2 and it works flawlessly.
I hope you will still give a little support on Molecule, at least to keep it working when things should change.

The main reason Oxygen-Molecule hasn't been updated is that I haven't been using it myself. The reason: the updated Oxygen is very slow with the NVIDIA driver on my system.
For now, I have switched to using the much-faster QtCurve, which can be made to look quite beautiful with a little work. Here is my current QtCurve theme: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=138886.
Hi, I don't have a dark version, unfortunately. However, some far more talented folks than I are currently busy coding a proper Oxygen theme for GTK, so it won't be long before you'll be able to use Oxygen on GNOME with whatever colors you want.
If I use this (fantastic) theme, I should uninstall openoffice.org-kde integration package. So I can't use KDE Dialog inside OpenOffice. Is there some way to fix this? By the way, is this theme still under development or is it dead? (I don't want to be polemical, I'm just asking). Thank for the effort!
Hi, Oxygen-Molucule has no impact on the OpenOffice.org KDE integration package. If you prefer to use the OpenOffice.org GTK integration instead, then you will no longer have access to the KDE file picker dialogs.
Also to answer your other question, Oxygen-Molecule is dormant for now, because somebody else is working on a proper Oxygen theme engine for GTK. Depending on the progress of this project, Oxygen-Molecule may or may not receive an update.
Ruslan Kabatsayev (http://kde-look.org/usermanager/search.php?username=10110111) is working on transcribing the original Oxygen theme to GTK with some help from Craig Drummond (author of the QtCurve theme engine). Craig has also given me help in the past with Oxygen-Molecule. As far as I know, there isn't a page set up for this project yet.

Probably not at this point, considering that there is a project underway to create a GTK version of Oxygen. Soon, Oxygen-Molecule will be obsolete.
