Description:
Plastikzilla is a theme for Mozilla to make it have the same look as the KDE programs with the Plastik style and the Crystal SVG 1.0 icon set.

FIREFOX USERS: This theme is only for Mozilla. If you use Firefox, you need Plastikfox instead. You may download it at:

COLOR SCHEME: Plastikzilla doesn't follow the KDE color scheme. Remember it's just a theme for Mozilla (it doesn't contain any executable code), so it's impossible to do it. It's made with the 'Plastik' color scheme.

Please report bugs to 'vfernandez at polinux dot upv dot es'.

Thanks to Everaldo for his Crystal SVG icon sets. You can get them at:
http://www.everaldo.com

HOW TO INSTALL
-----------------------

· Extract the files anywhere you want
· Open the index.html file in Mozilla (you don't need to be 'root')
· Click the "Install" button

· Restart Mozilla again
· Enjoy!

Optionally, you can also install the patch for small toolbar icons:

· Select the tab "Icon size"
· Click the button "Install patch"
· Restart Mozilla

If you want, you may delete the downloaded files once the theme is installed.

I don't seem to get an option for a global install with this plastikzilla theme, and it always winds up in root's mozilla profile rather than the /opt/mozilla/lib/chrome directory. I detest having to install things twice for separate users though. Any chance you could adopt a more flexible installation procedure, like most xpi-installation based themes?

djworld

Take a look at this: http://www.polinux.upv.es/mozilla/instaladores.php You may use it. If you prefer just to install the theme globally in your own installation you can take this anyway and extract it anywhere. Then extract browser.xpi, and inside it in bin/chrome you'll find a modified plastikzilla.jar suitable for global installation. Just copy it to the chrome directory where you installed Mozilla. You also need to add this to installed-chrome.txt: skin,install,url,jar:resource:/chrome/plastikzilla.jar!/global/ skin,install,url,jar:resource:/chrome/plastikzilla.jar!/communicator/ skin,install,url,jar:resource:/chrome/plastikzilla.jar!/editor/ skin,install,url,jar:resource:/chrome/plastikzilla.jar!/messenger/ skin,install,url,jar:resource:/chrome/plastikzilla.jar!/navigator/ If you want to make it the default theme you need to change: skin,install,select,classic/1.0 to: skin,install,select,plastikzilla/1.3

Hi, I really love this mozilla theme. It looks realy nice. But after update from 1.2 to 1.3 there is a problem with site icons. There are two at each tab - one of them is changing to rotating arrows when loading page. Is there any solution of this problem? Thanks for any help.

djworld

Are you using any extension? If so, what? A screenshot would probably be helpful too. Please send me an e-mail with it (vfernandez at polinux dot upv dot es) so I can better understand what you mean and fix it if it's a bug.

djworld

I've released the new version 1.2. This fixes an important bug that made Mozilla crash when visiting certain web pages. You should update now for a more stable experience. If, anyway, you experience Mozilla crashes with this new version that don't happen when using other themes please tell me, but you shouldn't. ;)

I know Qute and the default Firefox themes use the GTK2.0 colour scheme. Given the existance of things like gtk-qt, would it be possible to have Plastik for Mozilla/Firefox do the same thing?

djworld

Plastikzilla and Plastikfox are pixmap themes. It's made with screenshots of the Plastik style. That means if you want to change a color you need to modify the screenshot and it's not possible in Mozilla/Firefox to do it. It would be possible to create a new theme that only used native GTK widgets (there are ways to tell Mozilla/Firefox to do this) so they look as usual. But I'm not sure if it's possible to do it for ALL the widgets and that also means creating a totally new theme.

Hello, Using the small size toolbar buttons with Mozilla 1.6/1.7, I've noticed a slight problem. Open two tabs. Keep one blank - the back and forward buttons will be grey. In the second tab, open a site, then click on a link. Now that you have a history, the back button will be blue. Switch between the two tabs, and notice how Mozilla resizes the toolbars by two pixels when you switch. It seems that the size of the various icons - back, forward - isn't identical when blue or grey. This is annoying since it takes a half second for Mozilla to resize each time. The fix is to edit communicator/subskin/small-toolbar-icons.css is the plastikzilla.jar and replace #nav-bar-buttons .toolbarbutton-menubutton-dropmarker, #print-button .toolbarbutton-menubutton-dropmarker { margin-top: 16px !important; margin-left: 16px !important; } with #nav-bar-buttons .toolbarbutton-menubutton-dropmarker, #print-button .toolbarbutton-menubutton-dropmarker { margin-top: 14px !important; margin-left: 14px !important; } Hopefully the next release will fix this. Thanks!

I'd love to see this theme for Firefox 0.9! It go nicely with my Plastik theme windows!

Read the notes. This theme is also available for Firefox. :) You'll get it at: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=11442

Hello, I think a port of plastikzilla to thunderbird would be very appreciate ;) I've added a piece of CSS in my userC*.css to style the startpage and general panel, so my thunderbird have a little look of a kde crystal application http://n.mo.free.fr/thunder/ Screenshots: http://n.mo.free.fr/thunder/screenshot-bigpanel.png http://n.mo.free.fr/thunder/screenshot-startpage.png (it would be very nice with a plastikthunder theme i guess ;) NB: the general panel CSS can be ported to mozilla mail but not the start page one

nmoreau

I think you should submit your theme at http://texturizer.net/firefox/themes/submit.html Cause firefox users don't know about it, and i think your theme is far better than the actual crystal-like theme registered in the theme database

djworld

I sent it to them and it should be there with the name "Plastikfox". If it isn't there, then they have removed it. Hope that's not. ;)

I've just learnt how to make RPM packages and I'm trying to build an RPM package of Plastikzilla for Mandrake 10. I have some problems not related to building the RPM package but what to modify in the configuration files. I've tried some things and they don't work. Anyway, this means I'll probably get it soon. What do you think about having RPM packages for Plastikzilla? Would you prefer it instead of the actual way to install it? When I get the RPM package for Mandrake 10, it would probably be trivial to make RPM packages for another distros like Fedora 2 and Suse 9.1.

Hi, when you use the (actual excellent) Tabbrowser Extensions Plugin, then the Theme is a bit broken, tabs look all cut off because the left and right side is not shown. If you have time you might take a look at it. Second thing is, that it seems there are no small icons for the mail part, I still have the big icons there and I'd like to see small icons there too. Else these theme is just awesome :)

djworld

I know about the problem with the Tabbrowser extensions and I've been looking for a way to solve it but I don't know very well how. The tabbrowser extensions bind the tab widget so what I say in the theme gets overriden. I think the only way to fix it is by making a modified version of the Tabbrowser extensions that overrides the tab widget in a way that it's still compatible with what I say in the theme. But right now I don't have the time to work on it, so unfortunately Plastikzilla won't be compatible with the Tabbrowser extensions before I finish my university exams, which begin in 3 weeks and will end 30th june.

gullevek

well, thanks. good to know. Good luck in your exams!

I've noticed that if you use this theme with mozilla-1.6 and open multiple tabs with ctrl-t, sometimes the X server freezes. Even ctrl-alt-backspace cannot kill X. I initially thought it was just a problem with Mandrake but I've noticed the same happens on Slackware 9.1.

djworld

It should be a problem related to Mozilla, not to Plastikzilla. Have you tried with Mozilla 1.7 RC 1? Have you used the official installers or are you using the version included in your distribution? Try with a different one to see if it works well. You may also try other themes to see if Mozilla crashes with them too. One theme for Mozilla doesn't contain any binary code, so if Mozilla crashes it's an issue related to Mozilla.

vurcieyem

Other themes don't freeze my xserver when using multiple tabs. I'm using 1.6 from Slackware & the other from Mandrake. I'll download 1.7rc and see if theres any difference.

iedutu

The theme is not working with the RC1 version of Mozilla 1.7 Maybe there is a workaround for this? This theme is the BEST ever theme ... (Hope that Mozilla will place it as default :-)

djworld

I haven't added support for Mozilla 1.7 yet, but don't worry, I'll do it very soon. You may force the installer so it accepts the installation of Plastikzilla in Mozilla 1.7, even if it's not compatible. For that, you need to do the following: Edit the "index.html" file and search for a line like this: } else if (rv != '1.3' && rv != '1.4' && rv != '1.5' && rv != '1.6') { Then change it to: } else if (rv != '1.3' && rv != '1.4' && rv != '1.5' && rv != '1.6' && rv != '1.7') { Also, change this line: if (rv == '1.5' || rv == '1.6') to: if (rv == '1.5' || rv == '1.6' || rv == '1.7') I don't know if it's compatible because I haven't taken a look at the code, but you can try it. Please tell me whether it works or not. If it doesn't work, in the next release I'll make the required changes to make it work.

iedutu

Thank you so much! It worked!!! With those 2 changes, I was able to install the theme with no problems at all.

gnumdk

It will be cool if you update toolbar icons to kde 3.2. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/gnumdk/konqueror_bugzilla.png
