This goes well with the xl_dark theme. This metacity does work with other themes, but may not look as nice since it's taylored to be darker. Adjustments in the gtkrc file can be made to pass adjusted colors to this metacity so it will look nice.
Or just hack this file up to however you want it.
Props goes to Ken Vermette of the ubuntu art team for the original look of the buttons.

it just doesn't work...it wont install
you fixed it, and now it works! excellent! I have to say though, the emerald theme still needs work...I'm no emerald wiz and I couldn't figure out how to make it work but until it's perfected, I'll just use the metacity theme. ONE THING THOUGH! the inactive borders are a different color! I don't think this should be. I'm guessing you did this because the inactive borders are a little bit transparent with the gwd borders and compiz, but I urge you to change it to the same color becase the transparency can be turned off for inactive windows: Just go to configuration editor>gwd and make the metacity_theme_opacity value 1. Also, we need to find a way to make the close button bigger like the emerald theme.
Thanks for sharing
it works on your linux? do you use ubuntu?
Are you copying it to your .themes directory? It should work with ubuntu. that's what I'm using.
yes i copied it in the themes folder. after this did not work i installed it with the appearance-manager but even then it didnt work. all other metacity-themes are installed without problems. i dont know what the problem could be. i am sure this theme would look perfect with the dust-theme but i cant test it:(
i really would like to use this with the dust-theme if the colour fits, but it doesnt work on ubuntu 8.04.1
