I have tried this several times with no luck and now I think my computer is broken. At first I hadn't the foggiest as to how I should get the noodles on to my hard drive. I tried to put them in the CDROM drive to copy them over but that didn't work and now the tray won't open. Then, I thought that maybe I had the wrong type of noodle ( your instructions are quite vague on this ) so I looked my hard drive over and noticed a label with a small dent in it. Even though it said "Warranty Void If Removed." my drive is old anyway so I peeled this up and sure enough there it was, a small round hole! I then proceeded to get me some angel hair pasta as this is the only type small enough to fit in the hole that I know of. Anyway, I turned my computer on then began to feed the noodle into the hole, this is where my troubles really began. I started to look for the script when I received many file not found errors, then I got a device not ready message. I am not sure how /dev/sda can be not ready as this is my only hard drive in this computer. Now it won't boot at all, instead it just beeps and the drive access light stays on. I hope you can help me with this problem as I was hoping to use the script to back up my home folder as a .deb package to help me restore easily if needed.

omg, this script don't help you. (dpkg -b is clumsy) but it can be edited to copy all "good" files/folders to another drive... do you rly need one? or maybe a script that check and make a list of files and burn it with 'burn'

A technician friend was contacted by someone frantically looking for the oil nipple on the motherboard, because he hadn't oiled it at all since buying it, and was extremely worried everything would soon come to a grinding halt! The customer of course was told that if he did oil the motherboard, that was a sure way to bring his system to a halt, hehe. And perhaps cause a fire, hehe. We seriously laughed to tears on that one... ignorance can be forgiven, but stupidity of that magnitude deserves to be laughed at heartily! Hehehe... I personally would have told the client I could help him find where the oil nipple was as long as he had a left-handed screwdriver to work with!

This script generates Ubuntu compatible packages?

Perberos

Something yes, something no... I dont know why, sorry :(

michaelnight23

How do you use this?

Perberos

Sorry, this script is not complete. :( How to make deb packages: http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8047723203.html

Sunsparc

Is this similar to checkinstalling a package?

Perberos

hmmm, I don't think so.

Rafterman

No, using checkinstall works only for source packages that use the GNU autotools for compiling, and it's used mainly for personal packaging, not for distributing. This script is used to make a .DEB the proper way when the package build structure has been set up.
