Description:
UPDATED

I got the idea for this from the beautiful Sea GDM theme by Dav87 which uses the same wallpaper - thnx Davide!!!

Davide's GDM theme can be found here:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Sea+GDM?content=86893

and the original wallpaper here:

http://freedomwallpaper.com/

The theme was compiled using the source code for the excellent usplash-smooth usplash theme by volanin which you can find here:

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ubuntu+Usplash+Smooth?content=93386

Many thanks to you volanin for your wonderful work

Please note that this theme was compiled on Intrepid Ibex and will not work on other versions.

NOTE

If the theme doesn't work for you straight away, please make sure you try changing your resolution settings in startup-manager and /etc/usplash.conf. For example, I have the theme running on three Intrepid Ibex systems as follows:

Laptop (native 1280x800): startup-manager 640x480; usplash.conf 1280x800

Monitor 1 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 1024x768; usplash.conf 1024x768

Monitor 2 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 800x600; usplash.conf 800x600

Monitors 1 and 2 are almost identical Samsung models, but it appears that Monitor 2 doesn't allow resolutions of greater than 800x600 during boot (boot-up halts and I'm presented with a list of available resolutions, the largest of which is 800x600;32 bit).

I hope you enjoy this theme. All comments, criticizers and scoffers welcome
Last changelog:

Version 1.2.2

Fixes problem where the theme was not displayed on some systems. Thanks to flysand and Apprenti for drawing the problem to my attention and for their patience and assistance in getting it fixed. Thanks also go to Phylu for his assistance with the code

Please note that you do not need this update if your theme is working properly, but it shouldn't do any harm if you choose to install it anyway.

Version 1.2.1

Added an option to have the progress bar with minimalistic shading (for those of you who don't like the totally clean version). Just download "usplash-theme-sea-shd.so".

Version 1.2.0

After people were having problems I've recompiled the theme with more resolutions included and it seems to work better. But make sure you try changing your res settings in startup-manager and /etc/usplash.conf if it doesn't work for you at first.

This version of the theme also has a new progress bar - slightly smaller and clean colors. Hope you like it.

Version 1.1.0

Includes better (ie slightly more subtle - I'm no artist) work on the reflection. Sorry the first one was so wick!!!

Hi, no probs - it's there now. The image files are in /usplash-theme/usplash-theme-ubuntu_0.19.tar.gz/usplash-theme-ubuntu-0.19 Please note the difference in the names of the tar file (ubuntu_0.19) and the folder within it (ubuntu-0.19). green :)

Phylu

Thanks a lot.

Your Usplash is splendid but doesn't work with StartUp-Manager on my Desktop (HP Pavilion 3117). Screen resolution is 1280 x 1024 (5:4) 60 Hz. StartUp Manager settings are 1024 x 768 (8 bits). I use Intrepid Ibex. StartUp Manager accepts to load Sea Usplash 1.1 but I have no picture at the startup (just comments lines scrolling). Is it because you use a laptop 1280 X 800 and me a desktop 1280 x 1024 ? Thank you for your answer !

Hi there, and thanks to you also for the feedback. I'm very sorry the theme didn't work for you. I hadn't been able to try it on anything other than my 1280x800 laptop. But over the last few days Ive tried it on two 1280x1024 monitors. It worked on one but not the other. I have recompiled the theme using a different method and now I got it working on all three systems. I had to change my settings as follows: Laptop (native 1280x800): startup-manager 640x480; usplash.conf 1280x800 Monitor 1 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 1067x768; usplash.conf 1067x768 Monitor 2 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 800x600; usplash.conf 800x600 So do try various settings. Please let me know how you get on. Thanks and sorry again for the problem :)

Hi there. And thanks for the feedback - its good to get it even if its to tell me the theme doesn't work. I'm very sorry you've had problems. Until a few days ago I hadn't been able to try it on anything other than my 1280x800 laptop. Since then Ive tried it on two 1280x1024 monitors. It worked on one but not the other. BUT I have recompiled the theme using a different method and now I got it working on all three systems. I had to change my settings as follows: Laptop (native 1280x800): startup-manager 640x480; usplash.conf 1280x800 Monitor 1 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 1067x768; usplash.conf 1067x768 Monitor 2 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 800x600; usplash.conf 800x600 So its well worth fiddling around with those settings. Please let me know how you get on. If no-one complains then I don't know it needs fixed LOL. Thanks and sorry again for the problem :)

Beautiful Usplash, I like it ^^ Now install it

greenbehemoth

Great - its pretty basic LOL, but it looks nice. Glad you like it Davide :)

clone4crw

Is there a place where i could download just the photo? Id like to use it as my wallpaper.

greenbehemoth

Hi. If you want the photo as it appears in the Usplash (ie with the text etc) its included in the pack. If you want the unadulterated photo then its here: http://freedomwallpaper.com/Gallery%20Nature%201/5.jpg. You will find some beautiful wallpapers there ;)

flyinghigh

I tried to install it through Start-up-manager,but failed. Are the manage way of usplash in ubuntu and xubuntu the same?

greenbehemoth

Hi there. Hmm, I thought it should work in Xubuntu but I might be wrong. Do you get an error message when you try to add it in startup-manager, or does it appear to be added ok but just not work? And what is your screen resolution (native and what is set in /etc/usplash.conf)? Sorry for all the questions?

Usplash

Usplash is a software project in the Ubuntu community. Historically, scrolling text "verbose mode" has typically appeared on Linux computers during boot. Usplash replaces the scrolling-text screens with a graphical splash screen. Wikipedia
