Once again I have copied Dav87's excellent ideas (sorry Davide). This Usplash themes is based on Davide's beautiful Sunset GDM theme which can be found here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Sunset?content=85709
The original pictures used in the theme can be found here:
http://freedomwallpaper.com/
The theme was compiled using the source code for the excellent usplash-smooth usplash theme by volanin which you can find here:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ubuntu+Usplash+Smooth?content=93386
Many thanks to you volanin for your wonderful work

This theme was compiled on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 and will not work on other versions.
NOTE
If the theme doesn't work for you straight away, please make sure you try changing your resolution settings in startup-manager and /etc/usplash.conf. For example, I have the theme running on three Intrepid Ibex systems as follows:
Laptop (native 1280x800): startup-manager 640x480; usplash.conf 1280x800
Monitor 1 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 1067x768; usplash.conf 1067x768
Monitor 2 (native 1280x1024): startup-manager 800x600; usplash.conf 800x600
Monitors 1 and 2 are almost identical Samsung models, but it appears that Monitor 2 doesn't allow resolutions of greater than 800x600 during boot (boot-up halts and I'm presented with a list of available resolutions, the largest of which is 800x600;32 bit).
Hope you get it to work and, most of all, that you enjoy it.

can you post the background or the sources? i want to see if i can make a larger resolution of it, but can't find the wallpaper part.
Hey, I love your usplash theme, but I have one small problem: I can't get it to work. I could install it, and I see it in the StartUp Manager, still, I cannot find the right resolution and color depth. I saw you tested it with 1024x768, but it doesn't work for me =( Is there an specific color depth, or something?
Hi and very sorry you can't get it to work. Although the example theme on which this one is based was clearly written for 1024x768, the point I made in my description was that, strangely enough, it works perfectly for me on a 1280x800 widescreen laptop with no adjustments necessary. As youve obviously now discovered its NOT working for you on a monitor it SHOULD be working on LOL. BTW, until the last two days, ie since I saw your comment, I had never tested it on any other resolution but 1280x800 - that's why I included the source so anyone who wanted to try it with another res could compile their own. You will see that Ive now updated the theme to include more resolutions. But Im not confident this one will work for you either Im afraid. The reason I say that is as follows. Since I saw your comment I've spent literally hours compiling and trying different configurations of this theme on two Samsung monitors - slightly different models but the same native res of 1280x1024. I can't get the theme to work on one of them at all. I can get it to work on the other one with boot splash res set to 800x600 in startup-manager (this is the only setting that will show the usplash) and usplash res of 800x600 in /etc/usplash.conf (this one is necessary to get the shutdown usplash to display properly). BUT the image looks pretty crap on the screen. I'm starting to think this depends as much on the capabilities of the monitor as on the usplash settings. On this 1280x1024 monitor, ie the one where it works, if I set the boot splash res to anything above 800x600 in startup-manager, when I reboot I'm told the resolution isn't available and I'm given a list of resolutions which only goes up to 800x600. I think my monitor just doesn't have the capability to go any higher in boot mode. I know thats not been much help. Try the new one and do try every available setting in startup-manager before giving up. Oh and make sure any time you change the settings in /etc/usplash.conf you run sudo dpkg-reconfigure usplash Good luck and please let me know how you get on. If no joy I'll try with different source code (I get exactly the same behaviour with the "original" smooth theme on which this one is based on all my machines). green.

Sorry for all the posts - every time I refreshed my page listing AFTER I'd added the comment it added another one LOL. OK I've made a brand new version of the theme which I now have working on all three of my systems. It's just a matter of finding the combination of res settings that works for you (see my examples in the Changelog above). Please try this new one and see if you can get it to work. If not I'll have another go. Cheers :)
