I don't get it. =)

Your rating is low because you took someone else's (fantastic) work and changed about 1% of it. It has nothing to do with your religion. Did I read somewhere that Ubuntu CE also takes out the card games because of gambling, and renames processes like kill and daemon? That is a serious question, no disrespect.

mhancoc7

Thanks for your response. I understand that I did not do anything outstanding artwork wise. However, to me the great thing about Open Source is the fact that I can take someone else's work and tailor it to my needs and redistribute it. I did give credit to the author of the wallpaper. As for the question about removing the games from Ubuntu CE. I am sure that you have read that. There is a lot of Ubuntu CE basing going on. Most of it from people who have not taken the time to even check it out. Yes I did remove Gnome-Games, but only to allow room for other programs. I added an Administration Menu option that reinstalls all the removed programs automatically including all the Gnome Games. No I did not rename anything like daemon and such. That is one of the ridiculous things going around. Oh and yes Evolution is still included. :)

Hey Jereme. I just wanted to say that I think the Christian Edition of Ubuntu is a great thing. Good idea and good on ya for making it happen. I have the .iso downloaded but just haven't installed it, so I don't know what alls in there. Thanks for your hard work. Oh and it bothers me that there are so many who do not believe in Christ. You're doing a great job. ~A fellow Christian.

I think that it is interesting that the wallpaper that this theme is based on has a 67% rating. Since I did not make any major modifications to the graphics I suspect that the rating for this theme will continue to drop due to its Christian affiliation. That is just sad. Please if you give it a "Bad" vote, then could you at least comment. That way I know why you don't like it. I think this could be quite telling. Jereme, Developer Ubuntu CE

Works that are 99% derivitive of other people's art tend to be voted down here. Not sure why, I guess if you actually drew the wallpaper then you'd get more positive votes.

QUOTE: "I suspect that the rating for this theme will continue to drop due to its Christian affiliation. That is just sad." No, what's sad is how certain people say things like this when others don't go along , unquestioningly, with their way of thinking. What's sad is how some 'Christians' attack anything and everything that's contrary to their own beliefs; going so far as to introduce legislation in order to keep things offensive to them out of the hands of others who might believe differently. QUOTE: "Ubuntu CE adds GnomeSword Bible software and Dansguardian web content filtering. The idea behind Ubuntu CE is not to deviate from the Ubuntu community. It is instend to draw a larger Christian base to the already thriving Ubuntu Community. The project is not a gimmick. It has been discussed at length at the Ubuntu forums. Many have objected mainly due to the fact that it is a Christian project." All of these programs and filters can easily be added to Ubuntu (duh!) That's what your developers have done. Doing so doesn't justify the creation of a new variant of Ubuntu. This is why so many in the community object. It has nothing to do with the fact that you're Christian. (see my comment above.) NOTE TO MODERATORS: This is my last post on this subject. Sorry to turn this post into my soap box.

docomo

You don't have to justify yourself. Just go on and make a cristian edition if you feel that idea has merit. This is free software - nobody can stop you. And don't worry to much about ratings. The people who do enjoy what you create will do so regardless of ratings. Those who rate it down don't have to use it, and no harm is done to them.

mhancoc7

Thanks, Jereme

mhancoc7

Wow, all that over a GDM theme.

fepede2

Yes, i've voted it down because it's a christian theme.

mhancoc7

Thanks for being honest.

ktux

i didnt vote , but do u really believe because of adding a certain filter and a gnomesword bible software to an os and call it christians edition , (christian ?) people will use it ?? come on ..... how about a jesus wallpaper ? :-)

mhancoc7

Well the short answer is yes. I have the same outlook about all my projects. I just think they should be available for those who want them. Like my site www.whatwouldjesusdownload.com for instance. I wanted there to be a nice Christian Internet portal that is designed for Christians, but does not try to "save" the visitors. That is why I get so upset when people say that I am shoving my beliefs down their throats. I mean none of my sites try to encourage non-believers to believe. That is not what my projects are about. I started using Ubuntu because I found a Christian version of an Operating system. I can't see why some would make a fuss over that! The only ones I can see complaining here & pointing fingers is non Christians. One of the first rules in Freemasonry is ...nor are you to suffer your zeal for the institution to lead you into argument with those who through ignorance may ridicule it... I started with 6. something. This computer is your version of Hardy...I have both Hardy from Ubuntu & Hardy from your version. The only reason I downloaded the one from Ubuntu is because I couldn't wait any more! LOL You turned me on to Ubuntu!! My only regret is I wish you had a Christian version of DesktopBSD...Another great OS. Thanks for all your work! Take Care of what you hear!

I'd like to know what's different or special about the so called 'Christian' edition of Ubuntu? Ubuntu contains no packages that would be construed as offensive to Christians, nor does the Ubuntu community at large exhibit an anti-Christian ethos. This seems gimicky to me or at the least, needlessy redundant.

Hohlraum

they got rid of the non-white people and everyone knows that shade of brown is satanic. lolol

mhancoc7

This is completely inappropriate and only shows your intolerance. If you do not have a truly constructive comment then I ask that you move on. Jereme, Developer Ubuntu CE

angrykeyboarder

It seems kind of silly. I mean there's no "Windows Christian Edition" yet Windows Bible-thumpers manage to find all the "Christian" software they want. I'm sure Ubuntu (or Debian, Fedora, SUSE, Mandriva, Gentoo and so on..) users are capable of installing "Christian" software. Most (if not all) of it can be found in the respective repositories. But if one *must* go for a "religious" version of Ubuntu, then Ubuntu "Satanic Edition" is a far better idea don't you think? Can I get an "AMEN!"?

mhancoc7

Ubuntu CE adds GnomeSword Bible software and Dansguardian web content filtering. The idea behind Ubuntu CE is not to deviate from the Ubuntu community. It is instend to draw a larger Christian base to the already thriving Ubuntu Community. The project is not a gimmick. It has been discussed at length at the Ubuntu forums. Many have objected mainly due to the fact that it is a Christian project. However, it has many more supporters. Many of the supporters are not even Christian, but they truly understand Open Source Software and how this project has a great potential to introduce Linux to a very large and as of yet untapped resource. Jereme, Developer Ubuntu CE

wedderburn

"has a great potential to introduce Linux to a very large and as of yet untapped resource." Agreed, having many Christian friends i can say that they tend to associate better with things Christian based, so they will feel more at ease with trying a new OS. having said that i modded it down because i like this place for the art not for a religious or political view points that may offend some people

angrykeyboarder

Those poor Christian Windows users. I pity them more than the Non-Christian Windows Uers. Thank God for Christian Ubuntu! Thank you Jesus!

acidman

Is this real? I can't belief this. You mean you make a special version of Ubuntu for christians?
