Description:
This XSplash theme is created by NerveClasp (Roman Horokhov, Kyiv, Ukraine)

feel free to modify it as long as the information about me is mentioned as the source artist

How to install the theme:

You might want to backup your original XSplash theme, so type the following in the terminal (or ctrl+c - shift+ctrl+v in terminal)
sudo cp /usr/share/images/xsplash/ /usr/share/images/xsplash_backup/
than with root privileges extract this archive to /usr/share/images/xsplash/

mind that to install another theme you may just copy any .jpg picture to /usr/share/images/xsplash/ and rename it as bg.jpg! The same is with logo and throbbler (animation) files! simply change logo.png and trobber.png (simlinks will do the job for you=) )

Padster

this isn't a gdm, i'd say more splash screen.

There is no particular link to all xsplash themes here, and as xsplash is the next generation of gdm - xsplash themes are stored here. New Ubuntu (and some others) OS uses xsplash instead of old GDM. I suggest You google on this issue to understand the essence of the question. regards

oh, well, i huess this could be called a gdm theme, because it comes up as the background for the gdm. oh, i looked and gdms don't work now? ok, well, ur right then. sorry, my mistake.

nerveclasp

you thought xsplash is just a splash screen?) xsplash is not just background. I spent some time and energy to make two unique throbbers (animations) for two my xsplash themes. background was a piece of cake to make.. Throbber is the main part of xsplash.

Padster

yeah, i made a throbber, too, i just mean that it is the background for the login screen. after it loads, the user select box comes up, and the throbber stops. then when u log in, it starts again.

nerveclasp

why exactly you regard this not ot be GDM?

Padster

i like what u did with the links. it makes it a lot smaller, and still works. great idea!

nerveclasp

Thank you)) I noticed that some themes have just the same logo, background and throbber files (the same size) and they still work, so why can't we use simlinks to do the job?))

Padster

i did that with my soundwave xsplash. the background's just plain black, so why do i need all those images? and the throbber was the same size as well.

For applying GDM themes, there is this tool:

Note Ubuntu uses LightDM, so you would need to switch to GDM first to use GDM themes:
