Just an update, Mac4Lin SVN has been updated with a new version of GTK Themes' and GTK Icons' directories. They are compatible with the latest version of GNOME and distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora etc. To download everything goto this page: http://mac4lin.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mac4lin/ and on the botton click on "Download Tarball". If you however want to download specific components (like GTK_Theme etc.) then goto that directory and download the specific tarball. To install, you can follow any guide available online to install either the GTK theme or the GTK Icon theme. I am yet to make a formal release, but those who want to experiment with the latest version and file bugs are welcome to do so :)

I am yet to release an update. Work has been keeping me too busy and hence I haven't found enough time to work on the next version. But I assure you that there will be an update soon! :) Glad many parts of Mac4Lin still work on the latest version of Ubuntu! :)

KRAKA7OA

Glad to inform you that Mac4Lin still runs well on Lucid Lynx! With the little exceptions of Boot Splash and Login Window as you know, and a new extra exception it would be the sounds that cannot be configured, but it's ok, I can live without them. I just hope Mac4Lin can still be installed in the future realeses of Ubuntu, or a new version sees the light out of your talent! Take good care dear Anirudh...

KRAKA7OA

Dear infrareddude: I'm still loving your theme, but not all the features work fine with the new Karmic Koala. I mean I can't change the Splash screen, the login window, as in the old versions of Ubuntu. Are you gonna keep developing new versions of Mac4Llin that solve this issues? Or would you suggest to downgrade my Ubuntu to be able to have all the package running ok? Hugs and Kisses Vale

infrareddude

Yes, I'm aware about this. Issue is I'm pre-occupied with work and I've relocated to a new place; hence I'm not finding enough time to work on Mac4Lin. I'll try to get things done as soon as possible. It's good to know that there are many users like you who still use and love Mac4Lin :)

KRAKA7OA

Thanks so much Dear Infrareddude for giving attention to your fans. The new interface of Karmic Koala is great, but I still feel comfortable and familiar with Mac4Lin excellent design, I do hope in the next versions of Ubuntu, still being able to use it, because version downgrading, could crash enjoying new features and benefits. I wish I could enjoy the best of both worlds in the future. Best Wishes for all your projects!

Yes, I'm working on updating Mac4Lin. But the work is going on slowly due to lack of time. I've extended an open invitation to all to help me fix issues. But nobody has come forward yet. Rest assured, Mac4Lin will not go un-updated. It will stay and be very much alive in future! :) though the development will slow down a bit due to various factors...

Dear infrareddude: I thought that everything's gonna be perfect by now, but I'm afraid there's a little bug, it needs your attention. As you can see in the screenshot links I'm sending to you, my screen resolution windows sometimes works just fine, sometimes not at all. There's an error message that pops-up, but no message can be seen. Also, when I finish my user session, just a second before it closes, a warning message appears preventing me of something, but so fast that I can't read what it says. Would there be any way to catch it? I thought the snapshot could do the trick, but it would have to be taking a full sequence of pictures, to be able to catch it. By the way, don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm changing the screen resolution every now and then, but just reporting the bug, because of how much I love Mac4Lin, that I want it to be perfect! Thanks infrareddude. When is not working: http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/8676/screenresolutionwindow.png When it works just fine: http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/200/screenresolution.png When the error message pops-up, with no message: http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9572/errormessagey.png

I'm not sure but I don't think its a bug in mac4Lin. I'm unable to reproduce this bug on my system. Can you reproduce this bug with some other theme? Completely switch to the default GNOME or Ubuntu or whatever theme and try if you still get these errors.

Dear infrareddude: I've unistalled Mac4Lin and then reinstalled it again, because I thought I did something wrong during the intallation process first time. And now everything seems to be working nice and easy, simply perfect as I wanted!. I was wondering, how come your theme comes with an "uninstall" and "install" feature, while the other themes don't? And are there any more features than can be installed manually to have the complete package running? I mean just as the sounds you told me about. Is it possible to change the Gnome menu with Mac4Lin? and the Ubuntu booting process? I mean giving them the Mac4Lin new looks? Thanks and congrats!

infrareddude

Yes, there are quite some tweaks. You may wanna go thru the documentation : http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/files/mac4lin/ver.1.0_RC1/Mac4Lin_1.0_Documentation-RC2b.pdf/download I'm still updating it but most of whats described in there works. Hope this helps :)

KRAKA7OA

Thanks so much for the unvaluable info documentation. It's great knowledge and wisdom. I'll be so glad when everything in my Ubuntu system be makeover with Mac4Lin looks! Thank you always for your amazing help and exquisite artwork... With my deepest gratitude

Dear infrareddude: Definately it was something I did which caused the little issue I commented on my previous message. When you nicely asked me to post screenshots of the problem, then I found out in the System>Pref>Appearance>Fonts that the only thing I didn't make a change was to the "Fixed width font" typography, which I left the default setting, and when I changed it to the "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono Roman" you suggested in your "MyFonts.png" voila! Then I was able to see all the fonts in "Help" windows, even in the "Resolution screen preferences" which was also vanished and the only thing shown was the title. Anyway, it was because of you and your support that I found out the problem solution once again. Thank you very much dear infrareddude for being so nice and kind. By the way, how can I post a screenshot here? That's my last question I promise.

You can upload the screenshot to some imagehosting site (like imageshack etc.) and just post a link here :)

Thanks again for your time and nice help. I did what you adviced me, and the sound system is just hi-fi now! Except for one little thing, my theme would be perfect. I hope you can clear my mind, because I must be doing something wrong. You know I'm in love with your ArtWork, especially with this one: Mac4Lin and I won't change it, until you develop a greater one, but since I'm not an expert in Gnome and/or Linux (so easy to see ha?) sometimes I do need the assistance of "help and support", then I click on "about Gnome", "about Ubuntu" or simply "help" and what I get is a new information window, but with no information at all! Let me explain, the graphics are there, but no Fonts, and if I move the cursor over the window, then shows a small pop-up explanation, which tells me the fonts are still there, the words are there, but I can't see them, they're invisible. I can see the titles, and subtitles but not the information itself. Would this be a consequence of the typography changes I've made? I've followed your Typography change recommendations, and everything's looking great, except for the Help and Assistance Windows. What can I do to solve this little issue? Thanks in advance and I hope not to be bothering you, sorry.

infrareddude

Can you post a screenshot of the same? and also of the error messages? What changes did you make to the system fonts? Can you post a screenshot of System > Prefs > Appearances > Fonts dialog too?

infrareddude

Oh I see what you mean. The sounds will not be automatically assigned. Changing the theme will not switch the sounds. You need to goto System>Preferences>Sounds>Sounds and assign the sounds manually. Mac4Lin sounds are usually stored in /usr/share/sounds/Mac4Lin

KRAKA7OA

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my doubts. I didn't make myself clear, what I meant is that even though the change of Icon Theme from Human to Mac4Lin, the Ubuntu default sounds stayed installed, no change in this subject took effect. What I want is to have the Mac4Lin theme sounds playing, I've heard them in the sounds folder, and they're great, but I can't find the way to make them active, instead of the old ones. I've done my homework at the command terminal that you asigned me, but no success at all. Any suggestions? Thanks so much again.

KRAKA7OA

Somehow the sounds doesn't seem to be working properly or weren't installed at all maybe. What did I do wrong? I've tried to reinstall only the tar.gz sounds, but no success. And when I tried to copy them to the Ubuntu sounds carpet, the paste option is not active. Can you help me please? Thanks in advance

infrareddude

I'm guessing its an issue with permission. Can you goto the sounds folder (with the extracted .wav files) and do a 'sudo chown <your username> *.wav' and try if you are able to play the sounds in any media player?

KRAKA7OA

I don't like your state of the Art theme design, I'm so in love with it! And I'm so glad I found it, but happier I've installed it, and it was so easy, that I got surprised I didn't have any problems, as with others. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the GNU/Linux community...

KRAKA7OA

It's so great how this Theme works and how beautiful and fine it is. I'd like to congratulate the developer for such exquisite, amazing and accurate ArtWork. Lovely!

infrareddude

Thank you for the words of appreciation. Glad you like Mac4Lin :)
