Description:
Minty is a Gnome Shell theme with some flavour of Linux Mint. It is compatible with the latest Gnome Shell 3.2.

---

Ubuntu users can install Minty from our themes PPA using the following commands,

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:satyajit-happy/themes
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-theme-minty

---

Installation Instructions:

Extract the zip file to the themes directory i.e. "~/.themes/" or "/usr/share/themes/" or use Gnome Tweak Tool to install.

Install the User Theme Extension and use the Gnome Tweak tool to choose the themes.

To install the Gnome Shell theme without the User Theme Extension,

1. First backup your Gnome Shell theme directory i.e. "/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/".

2. Extract the zip file and rename "gnome-shell" directory to "theme",

3. Copy it to "/usr/share/gnome-shell/".

4. Restart GNOME Shell by pressing "Alt+F2", then type r and press Enter.

---

To install Gnome Tweak Tool in Ubuntu, open the terminal and type,

sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

---

To install User Theme Extension and Gnome Tweak Tool in Fedora, open the terminal and type,

su -c "yum install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme gnome-tweak-tool"

---

Warning:

This theme is not compatible with old Gnome Shell 3.0 (e.g.-Fedora 15). I'm not responsible if you try to use it on old Gnome Shell and things break.

ive been playing in css and js for days now, I was wondering, does anyone know how to change the panel spacing/padding, for tray/icons/launchers/etc???

I made a blue version of this, just search for "Blueberry" here if you want it. I hope I've given proper attribution.

Yeh! It's GPL :)

One of the posters on the Linux Mint forum has a version of Minty that works well when the top bar is moved to the bottom. He probably should have renamed his version of Minty, but he didn't. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=205&t=85775&start=60#p500132 I don't think you should be too harsh on the poster, he's been very helpful on the forums.

satya164

I won't be. But he should have at least asked me...

BruceMcL

I agree. I think he also should have renamed his version. But he just let his enthusiasm get the better of him. There is a lot of interesting modding of Gnome Shell extensions (and themes) going on in the Gnome 3 section of the Linux Mint forums.

The fork is not actually a improvement in my opinion. It mixes the some contents of gnome-shell.css of old theme with gnome-shell.css file of new theme, even that done incorrectly, as two different styles now exist for the same element. Btw I have updated Minty to work with Reflection extension.

BruceMcL

The new version is working well for me. Thanks for the improvement to Minty I believe the forked version has been pulled from the Linux Mint forums now that the author knows it is no longer needed..

satya164

Yeh, I see :)

I'm truly sorry. I did't mean to "fork" any theme of your at all. People was asking how to fix some problems with the old themes, and I showed how to do it: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=205&t=85775&start=20#p498366 Then some other people, not confident enough to manually edit their files, asked me to share my own modded files as attachments, I asked if doing so would represent a problem: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=205&t=85775&start=60#p500081 By the time you fixed your themes I removed the attachments, because it was not necessary anymore. Now a have learnt my lesson: I promess not share any file anymore.

Oops... I forgot... I'm just 12 years old.

Hi and thanks for the excellent mintyness! I was wondering if theres a way to have the regular gs panel with this, like the rounded corners and less or no transparency but your colors and smoother looking fonts? Idk if you did change the fonts but they look smoother, either way thank you for a great gs theme!

satya164

Possible. look the CSS file of a theme like the default one.

linux-void

I know what that is, I'm using the menu extension, thanks for the reply :) was just wondering because on all the gs themes I have installed menu looks native (e.g. if gs theme is transparent with transparent user/status menu, mgse menu looked also transparent)

satya164

Yeah, but there is more than just the background. There is menu highlight color, menu text color etc. In some themes, where the menu is not styled, it can be even unreadable(try light themes with light menu background). Also if you use the bottom panel and window list, you can see the difference clearly. :)

linux-void

what do you mean by "support for Mint Gnome Shell Extensions" ?

satya164

The MGSE will be styled as per the themes style and color scheme. To be more specific, the bottom panel extension, the window list extension, and the mint menu extension. If you don't know, MGSE are a part of Linux Mint which bring aGnome 2 like experience on gnome Shel, to make the migration easier.
