If you have few bucks to spare, please consider purchasing the theme to support the project and show that you appreciate the work and time spent into making the theme.
As a bonus, you'll also get an additional Numix Dark theme with the purchase.
Installation instructions
Ubuntu users can install Numix from our PPA using the following commands,
For starters I'm not a Linux Noob or Ubuntu user, I'm one of the few and proud Slackers, a real Linux geek that knows exactly what this world of OpenSource is and what it's not.
And no one said anything about being against making money, it's just how you go about it is what matters.
There's a HELL of a lot of people out there that put in a HELL of a lot more work and effort into Linux on many levels that make nothing.
You want to be a Graphics Type of Artist, great, get hired by a company as a real job, making real money, then you don't need to charge for making themes.
And in reality, trying to make a living on making thmes, this is not going to be easy, next to impossible, unless you're living in a 3rd world country where you can live on a very little!
As I said the FACTS speak for themselves so I'm not going to rant on this BS any longer. The Majority do not charge people for themes, FACT! SO get over it!
NEXT....
I am not sure what you guys are all pissed off about they offer a way to download for free. nearly every theme project offers a way of donating now.
Thanks to you you have successfully ejected them from this website. Try being nice. They will figure out what works and what doesn't on their own.
How about you just let them do their thing, huh. As you yourself said, almost all themes are free.
For not-a-noob you certainly seem to think that distro dev teams live on air and get paid nothing, from the way you wrote your comment.
People do what they love and some of them want to get paid for that. For one of the best themes on gnome-look, one that looks like is actually designed, not just put together and outdated by 10 years, I think it's not TOO much to ask for money.
But I do think it's TOO MUCH to come and shout at them for having audacity of asking for cash for their hard work. You basically told them they should OBVIOUSLY publish for free. How nice of you, eh.
I was talking about the Dark theme it's not for free.
I don't need any lessons in OpenSource I'm a Geek!
Funny thing, it's typically the new-end users jumping over from Mac & Windows trying to change the way the OpenSource world works, sorry it's not going to work!
Don't believe me LOOK around at what the MAJORITY do, and the MAJORITY does not charge for themes, that's a fact! So no need to babble on arguing over the facts, they speak for themself!
Oh and I'm sure you're also one of the Linux users that also uses a FREE LINUX DISTRO! Doesn't matter if you donate to it or not, most of them are FREE, because that's the SPIRIT of OpenSource!
Hell you hardly ever see anyone charging for themes in Windows, that's what's so pathetic about this! :(
Your link here says Donate and download.
Donations are typically voluntary.
Please share for free in the Spirit of OpenSource.
Linux developers out there are giving away entire distros for Free, you can certainly give themes away for free.
I've never seen anyone charge for themes until now, over 15 years in Linux...
How sad!
Maybe you should have clicked on the donate and download button to see what will happen. ;)
You will get transfered to the dA page that will offer you to download it for free or purcahse it and you are free to download for free if you want. Purchasing will allow you to grab the numix-dark gtk theme as a bonus. Not to mention we have linked the github page of the theme and ppas in the descriptions and our website, which is also linked provide an RPM repo.

is a invalid argument. A theme or a distro or whatever is a product and we're free to set any price we want for it. It is our own business and it is developers own business what pricing they put on their distributions if they put any.
Idealism is such a nice thing until you realise life sucks and you need money to function in the society. It may sound shocking to you, but we are people and we also need money. As every project Numix requires time and work (hell, it happens to be a full time job for me) and if you invest time and money into something you either need to make money from it, which will result in working more on the thing or leave it as a hobby, which will result is investing very little work on it, which will result in much worse product and I doubt any Numix user would want us to make worse products on slower schedule.
Now you can see why we need to make money from the project. If we were some suer rich people that were doing this for the fun we would have given everything for free, alas we are ordinary folks that are anything but super rich.
Needs some minor fixes under Ubuntu 14.04. And would be great it work perfect in Ubuntu 14.04, cause it's better than default themes, by far.
Thanx, and good work!
With Gnome 3.10, they changed the directory to ~/.local/share/themes and metacity themes no longer work in ~/.themes
But GTK2 themes don't work in ~/.local/share/themes, so best option is to use /usr/share/themes/
Also you can symlink ~/.local/share/themes to ~/.themes, that would work too.
You indeed are one great Artist, who can be considered to be a true asset to LINUX. I believe that you have identified the beauty of simplicity, rather than sticking to rounded corners, emboss, gradients with no padding and lesser spacing. This is what you call real eye-candy!!! The simple, clean, rich UI design!!!

Amen. And well stated. Later...
This text of what you say should be also posted in Numix deviantart page.

Free or not free, they are beautiful. Thank you for free ones and good luck in your sale.

Dear ubuntu user. Opensource doesn't mean freeware.
Well, aparently, you do NEED that lesson about open source.

Unfortunately I can't set Window Borders to Numix, only GTK Theme.
Have you installed it in /usr/share/themes/ ? If yes, try the following command, gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences theme "Numix"
I just moved it to .themes
Alright. moving it to /usr/share/themes worked. Wonder why it does not for ~.themes But anyway, thank you very much for your help :) Looks great!

for making things clear :)
Please, make a blue version for Cinnamon! I have a blue theme for GTK. It would be great!

Thanks for all the praises :D
Each time I find a good theme for GTK/Gnome and so on... You are the owner !
He he. Thanks. Glad you like my work :)
