Description: Started with Ambience as the base theme. Changed some things to look how I wanted. -Sidebar in Nautilus is now Dark. -Sidebar items in Nautilus have a hover effect. -selected_bg_color changed. -Buttons have color when hovered. -Tweaked some gradients and removed unwanted borders on widgets. -Active notebooks have a hint of color. -changed the hue of all the .png images for widgets. (What happened to drawing them with the theme engine?) -adjusted the text shadow for a recessed look within the selected_bg_color.
You can change the accent color to what you want by changing the selected_bg_color in the following files: /gtk-3.0/settings.ini /gtk-3.0/gtk-main.css /gtk-2.0/gtkrc
I don't use Unity so I didn't touch anything for that.Last changelog:
-20121217 - Added a transition effect for the menuitem hover. Added even and odd row background shades with a row hover effect.
-Found some icons I liked better and updated the 3rd screenshot.
I think it might look better and more consistent if you replace all those shades of orange in all assets with shades of grey.
Is there a sort of automated way of replacing colors in those indexed PNG files?

Not sure of an automated way. I did most of them in gimp.
