I think he has created a stunning image of what XFCE could look like, so I went ahead and put together the Window Manager protion of it.
Billy Cantrell created a gtk theme for Gentle, all I did was remove his panel portions, and I included Olivier Fourdan's suggestion for defining the XFWM4's color in the gtrkrc file.
If there is anything that needs changed, or doesn't look appropriate please comment below.
v 1.1: I centered the titles, decreased the height of the window manager by 1 px, created a different appearance for the close-active button, and added different appearnces for the pressed buttons.
v 1.2: I've added shadows to the active and inactive title text, I've defined the colors of the title text directly in the window manager theme, I added shadows to all windows and the panels, menus are now transparent, windows are now transparent when they are being moved.
v 1.3: I've added the gtk theme based on Billy Cantrell's work.
v 1.4: I included Olivier Fourdan's suggestion for defining the XFWM4's color in the gtrkrc file, so the GTK theme will work better with other XFWM4 themes.
v 2.0: I fixed an error that Thunderbird was causing with this theme (a big thanks to kashirigi for pointing this problem out to me), and I've now made it so that the xfwm automatically uses whatever color is called for in the gtk theme.

thanks for your job !!! it's my theme now, for all the laptop and pc... simply, elegant and professional !!
really cool theme dude, but i was wondering did you change the theme? because in the screenshots the borders are brown and here they are blue. or is there a way to change it?
Sorry for offtopic but how to add small thumbnail to my art?
i would suggest making window widgets more transparent: gentle-2.0 http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/2686/gentle20ghromeslimuv9.jpg gentle-2.1 (my hack job :D) http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/9440/gentle21ghromeslimeb8.jpg imo the second looks 'better' because it inherits the underlying gtk color
i have this on two computers now.. your hard work is GREATLY appreciated.. 2 complaints: - maximize_active_*.png ... I always add a widget for that to show when a window is maximized.. - in xfce when switching windows there is no background around the selected app - only the title changes, imho its better when there is highlighting (ala the zenwalk default theme or whatver) regardless this is my favorite theme by far... many thanks to the creator(s)
Hi! Brilliant theme as seen in the screenshots :) Though i am unable to make it look the way it looks in the screenshot... Thanks for the link to the background images...really awesome work by the artist! How can i get the transparent thing working? Thanks for sharing this wonderfull theme :) Stay well!
Great theme thanks! One quick question. I would like to remove the border around the clock and system tray. What is the widget class that defines them?
Anyone knows what icons are used in the screenshots? I can't find them on xfce-look...
Yeah, sure, it's call Nuove XT and I love the theme: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/nuoveXT?content=26448
Hello, I downloaded this theme, unzipped it into a folder, copied with sudo the folder to usr/share/themes and it does not show up on the themes list. In the themes directory, the folder has a red square with a cross on it, what does that mean? I tired with some other themes, and some did the same thing, some worked. But I really would like to install Gentle. I have XFCE version 4.3.99.1, that I added to my regular ubuntu. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Really very nice theme! I am using Xubuntu Edgy (Xfce 4.33.99.1), and i miss some details i can see on the screenshots: * Transparent menus. * Dark rounded buttons in the panel. What do i have to configure, or is this not possible with my current Xfce version?
Hi ! This theme is very very nice. Really. But there is still some nasty things :- The ALT+Tab cas is not really annoying, but it could be useful to solve it :)
- I've noticed that on every dialog box, the default button is not marked by anything. For example, a usual "OK - Cancel" dialog have its "OK" button surrounded by dots or something else. I find it very annoying to me since I don't use the mouse too much, and I can't know visually which is the current selected element.
- To my mind it is very hard to know which window is active, since only the title color changes. Could you think of any way to make the difference between active and inactive windows easier to see ?
Hi, great theme. I'd like to tweak it so that alt+tab hilites the selected item like other themes do. (Didn't realize how much I rely on this till it was gone.) Could you give me a pointer in the right direction? I've been reading through the gtkrc file, but that's taking me longer than I'd thought to figure out. Any help appreciated. --Brian
where can I get the wallpaper you use here?

HI, can somebody tell how do this theme work, because it is nice, but I cannot install correctly.Simply it does not appear on my xfce4.THx
Extract the gentleconfig theme to a folder. Copy the folder to /usr/share/themes. Open the xfce settings manager, go to window-manager and select the theme from the drop down list. Should work
http://gnomethemes.org/?p=19 http://gnomethemes.org/?p=4 they are much nicer than the old/original version
Billy, Thanks for the update, but your first link is broken, and your second link is for Gentle-LT which is nice, but I prefer Gentle original. I can't find your posting of just Gentle anywhere on Looky or on your blog. I would greatly appreciate it if you posted it somewhere for the many fans of your work. Thanks Sean
interesting.... http://gnomethemes.org/?p=19 works for me and is the Gentle post if you go here http://gnomethemes.org/ and Search gentle you should get 2 results ...Gentle and Gentle-LT or look in the Gtk archive http://gnomethemes.org/?cat=2 direct link is here http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/gtk/Gentle.tar.gz but the post with show you all the updates
Really Nice... This is the best theme I try... Just I change the frame around the clock and the tray icons.... But you did a really great job... Congratulations.
This theme is beautiful. Unfortunately, it causes my xserver to crash if I run Mozilla Thunderbird. It only happens with this theme. Very weird.
I am still trying to figure out what is causing this. It seems that it is actually XFCE that is crashing, and not the xserver. I will let you know when I come up with a solution to this problem. Thanks for the heads up on this, as I don't use Thunderbird myself.
I found that the problem was being caused by Thunderbird. It was requesting menu icons on the titlebar, which I had not provided since I did not want a menu on the titlebar. I've added some generic fillers for the menu, but still left them inactive in my theme. This seems to alleviate the problem.
