Description:
Because I use KDE everyday and have some moderate skills in graphics, I decided to try and make a nice wallpaper that everybody can enjoy. I hope you like it and I also wish that I didn't have to compress it so much.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. =)
Last changelog:

I added a new one that also says the "K Desktop Enviroment".

Oh you meant the icon smilie! :) I was talking about text smilies. Sorry for the confusion. LOL =)

joelsonoda

^^ Smiley is up there I agree with Mr. Worlf in that all good art is non-original. All of the greatest art in this world is an attempt at portraying a part of reality, not venturing into uncharted visual space (which is, I am sure, not what the honorable Zwobits intended). There is also a certain ammount of tallent required to applying the correct filters to do a digi-manipulation, so you needn't be defensive about that.

WinterWolf

I know I just wish this place would have a good Ikonboard or Burning Board forum and the ability to edit comments and turn these :) automatically into smilies. Also do you use GIMP for your graphics?

zwobits

Don't understand me wrong please. I said nothing against imroving things. Anyway

WinterWolf

WHY CAN'T WE EDIT OUR COMMENTS! Anyway, joelsonoda can you please point out where your smiley is. Did you make it differently. I make mine like this: =) or :)

Ludootje

Is in the post. When you post a comment you can choose an icon for your comment. HE choose a smiley.

WinterWolf

I never said I was an artist. I jsut said I had some *moderate* skills in graphics. I think there is a huge difference between a graphics artist and a real artist.

WinterWolf

This was my first one but actually I did a lot more tahn you said. Besidews you forgot to say I distorted and blurred the reflection to make it look like water a long with some other things. Also look at about everything good in the world. It all came from something before which was improved. Linux came from UNIX and so on. If I was to do what you said I ould have to make my own program, text font and EVERYTHIG> I don't feel bad at all that I used the K logo for the basis of my wallpaper. That's why I called it BIG K. I got it from the KDE clipart section, they put those there so people would use them. I did just that.

zwobits

Okay you took the Kde Logo from kde.org applied a few filters cropped it; pasted it over a background of textures. And applied a reflection on the ground. It is, and i really mean that, not bad. But it is also cut and paste. You add the Logo to a special green style. If you call yourself an artist you have to develop the Look of Kde. You have to renew things, and not just paste the old ones in. Please don't be angry about that comment, it is only my opinion; but I think you have the talent to improve your work.

joelsonoda

Feel free to mix granola and yogurt. They taste really good together.

WinterWolf

my 2 wallpapers look a lot better than yours joelsonoda. Here is yours: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=1255

I don't claim to be an artist, nor do I claim that your wallpaper is out of date or anything like that. Saying that something would be popular in the 70s does not make it unstylish or out of date (that's why I put little smiley). It doesn't look at all like art from the 70s because they didn't do any computer rendered stuff back then, but the colors are very retro (you like this word better?).

WinterWolf

for all of your comments. I'm glad you *all* understood that this was my first wallpaper. I also do not think it looks like the seventies but it is original. Some people have different tastes and views, you can unfortunantly see only your own. You most likely have never even seen 70's art, a lot of it looks fantastic. LInux also didn't exist in the 70's.

joelsonoda

If only KDE were around in the 70's, I'm certain that this wallpaper would have made it onto many, many desktops.

LinXace

I'd like to see more of your work. You did a great Job and this one will be added to my collection!

CipheR

Though I can't currently use it as the colors don't match the style I'm using, I think it's a great work of art and I have downloaded it for future use. CipheR

mathjazz

... I don't like this style - it's too archaic. But hey, you _really_ can improve it, because you are great artist!
