i just got a more cheap digicam, i can't attach other lenses or addons .... and i can't set up much in the menu of that cam, what i know is my lense is a kodak retinar lens 38-114mm (equiv) and i can do until 3x optical zoom..... if you look in my profile you can see what i could do until now...
not bad pics (in your profile) well, my background is, that i used a SLR for some years and about a year ago switched to D-SLR --- it often is much more important to have good lenses than 100Mpixel, because the lens is projecting the reality to the area that should then save this projecton --- i would never buy a small lens-builtin camera, because of the disadvantage of the builtin lenses compared to a normal non-zoom external one (but becasue of this, i have to carry much more than you in the field ~1,7kg) for touristic photos, an normal digicam is ok, but insects fly fast and the reaction from release to the effective release of the shutter should be as low as possible - and this is the good thing on a D-SLR: it takes the pic imediately (compared to non-SLR --- but in some cases, it is still too slow, as nature is faster (than my eos300d)) relative cheap but great are the D70 and the 300D (the 300D i own, the D70 seems to be very simmilar) actually, for really great photos, the 300D is too slow for me, but i don't have the money for a EOS-1Ds Mark II or a EOS-1D Mark II or similar
Yes i know a slr is better and the MP doesn't tell how good the pics are, but i don't got the money for such a cam cause i'm just at school and need it for other things.... maybe some years in the future i'll get money for it, or they get cheaper. But the really good cam's won't get much cheaper because of objectives don't really fall down in price much as long as they don't find out some cheaper methods to produce them with still good quality
how did you do such a photo o.O
you need: - good weather (sunny, but with clouds (the clouds lower the contrasts and make details look normal)) - digital SLR with 50/1.8mm + extension tube of 25mm - fascination in nature - time to spend - hdd-memory to spend - some training in this process i make series of photographs, while insects fly --- this way, one of 2-3 photos in one series is sharp with the object you want to actually take a pic from ;-) ... the disadvantage is, that you go to the botanical garden, take 2x256mb and 1x512mb on CF and come back with only 6 photos that are really good and ~150 photos that are not (because not sharp, because the bee or other insect was already away or decided to change direction of flight, while you decided to release the shutter)
