Maybe because "U"buntu is the name this distro is usually referred to as. Although they (canonical) say Kubuntu isn't a fork it just doesn't "feel" as good as Ubuntu. Using Gentoo or SuSE and KDE somehow feels better than Kubuntu. Dunno why.
Ubuntu is with Gnome and Kubuntu is with KDE. So if you like to add that to KDE page, why it is "Gnome based"? :-)
