Description:
Keeping real simplicity in mind I went to make this wallpaper. It was going to be an SVG completely but I'm still hitting some problems with the translucency as well as edges. I'm trying to get it refined, but, don't worry, a 1600x1200 PNG is up for grabs. Versions available include a 1600x1200 'Basse-Ubuntu' (with the Ubuntu logo lozenge and bar) as well as the plain background version.

The art.ubuntu.com page can be found here:

Kind regards,
Pascal Klein
Last changelog:

Alright, I've added the SVG which Andy helped fixing. It looks a bit weird, do not use straight for your backgrounds. I found that when you resize it to the size you need and then export into PNG things seem to look as they should. So to recap, resize the SVG into the size you want, export into PNG and use that PNG as your wallpaper. :-)

Resize problems fixed! Was 1024x768. Both versions are now at 1600x1200. :-)

The bar design has been used before. I used this bar design for consistency. :-) Regards, Pascal

The art deadline was on the 29th, but the art team is currently looking at creating a universe package with art in it. This is the sort of stuff you'll find in there. :-) Cheers, Pascal

Your wallpaper is beautiful, it definately received a 'good' vote from me. Is there any chance of you psoting the SVG files for these (I'ld like to rebrand it for another distro). If you don't want to, that's ok; these wallpapers are still excellent.

Yes of course. I was having some difficulties with the SVG. I actually wanted to make this a complete SVG. Andy Fitzsimon (another Ubuntu art guy) kindly helped me out. The SVG now looks a bit borked but when you export to a PNG things begin to look a lot more like they should. I don't complain - he got further than I could. :-) I shall add the SVG for anyone who wants it later today (it's 02:40 here). The only thing that comes to mind with rebranding this background with another distro name is that the Ubuntu art team are probably creating an art package sometime in the not too distant future (it is currently in discussion). This is one of the pieces I intend to add to that package (and having a re-brand for another distro might not be the best of ideas). What do you think? Cheers, and thanks for the comment. You could make it all semi-transparent with inkscape. That way, you could use gnome's built in abilites to set a gradient. I've seen this used with other wallpapers in the past. (would also give users the ability to choose a different color)

I'm confused by what you mean. I've sent you an email with the SVG and XCF files. Could you show me? Cheers, Pascal
