I was at Target(R) with my wife (in Atlanta Georgia, US) and I saw this seagull flying over me---hundreds of miles from any ocean beach. I whipped out my new camera and began shooting. Later, as I was looking at the pictures I thought this would make a nice wallpaper. Granted, it has nothing to do with KDE or GNU/Linux but the thought of a lone seagull this far from the ocean made me think of freedom and the epitome of "free" software (well outside the bounds of normalcy).
