As requested I've made a transparent version, it took time because finding the right color to use isn't easy ! You can now use it with the color you want, shades, etc.
No more banding, no more colors too flashy, you make it yourself ! As you like it.

OLD : I've tried to make something pleasant to use and not complex, I like it a lot for myself, hope it will be the same for you.
I would like to make something a little bit more complex and original, but i don't know if you will like it... if you are interested please say it. Also if you vote "bad" please tell me why, it will help me to make better and better.

I'm using your wallpaper in my root windows mixed with some textured pattern. Looks really nice (for me at least).
Now, with all the possible color choices... I can't STOP playing with the background on the desktop! Do I like it more in Blue or in Green or Red or Brown...?? It seems like I'll never get any work done now!
Many thanks for taking the time to "do it well" -- keeping the same hue for the KDE as the background (just lighter) must have been difficult, but I, for one, am in awe. Well done.

I also would like to escuse myself about the first comment i posted, a little bored ! I was just posted the picture and was happy of it, two hours letter the rate was 38%, generaly this score is for bad ones. And people who rate so bad for me didn't let any comment so i was a little mad.
This is one of the nicest logos ever... maybe you should have made a complete new entry, because with all your bad votings collected earlier it will take very long until you get the proper "excellent" rating this wallpaper deserves.
Yes it's true that i need time to have a better rate... but this is an image which as its past so i prefered to keep it, the score was 62% yesterday, today it's 73% (8 hours) so maybe it will be ok.

But you could really make it almost perfect when you one with a transparent background and perhaps (just an idea! I dont't know how it would look like) a more colorful penguin.

I'm curious if you might be able to release a transparent/semi-transparent version of the penguin on the logo in a .png graphic. That way, users can set up their own gradients/colors to match their windows.

And maybe i'll start a theme, as mentioned above ;)

... let me use just a few words: I LOVE IT! It's perfect, sweet and not too lively to make my eyes go crazy when i see my desktop. I'd love to see some icons and a splash with that cool penguin and maybe there'll be a style some time as well.
For all those considering this as too childish: I don't think it's childish, although i think children will be addressed by it. But aren't these the future KDE users?

Your central motif is lovely (and I like the penguin). The background isn't that great, though. If you took the background out, instead making it transparent, we could add our own backgrounds to taste.
'Banding' means that instead of the background looking like a smooth gradient, it looks like a series of bands of colour. This can happen even with 24-bit pictures (no cure, unless we go to 48-bit, which won't happen for a while).
i don't like the backgrund gradient very much as i find it too "banding". the penguin is very nice. i don't like the font: maybe too childish, while the reflexes and the 3d look is beautyful. what program/effect did you use?
I don't understand people... some backgrounds with the same colors are on the top, very well rated, and when i do something that look like (and i spend a lot of time) nobody like my work...
I've made the image with the Gimp, the pinguin has been taken and a little modified.
You can find the text effect on the GUG site, there is some tutorials, I've used "Apple iMac like effect" (little modified too) see also the "bump maping" tutorial into Basics, it helps for one thing.
