Description:
I got a little bored with my themes, so I decided to make use of some experiments I still had floating around and try to turn it into a complete theme. Be warned, it's a bit of a mess and not quite finished, but I guess it's usable.

Aside from the mirage engine (which is not a complete engine, but only provides certain elements), you will also need ubuntulooks and murrine to use the included themes. I'll likely drop the murrine dependency at some point but ubuntulooks will stay, since I see no point in duplicating half of the code. With more and more cairo engines coming out, I believe this kind of code sharing makes a lot of sense.

Make sure to check bvc's metacity theme and modifications: http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/mcity/Mirage2.tar.gz

hi man, I'm packaging this engine for my beloved slackware: I would like to know if this project is still alive and if there will be update or if you stop working on it, please..

I like this theme but I have a problem with Firefox menus not showing until I click on them. Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1311/1449020151_7cc62c4f63_o.png Here is a .deb of the engine if you have Feisty. http://rapidshare.com/files/58715918/mirage-engine_0.1-1_i386.deb.html

Great theme! However, there seems to be a bug with alltray. If you use alltray to minimize an application, it minimizes to tray as it should but the icon has a black background. It doesn't happen with other themes.

madscience

how do I compile this theme? I tried ./configure and autogen.sh, neither worked

greno

great look of theme folder, whats that s name? and where find it? keep working all so cool

dborg

It's Tango-M, you could get it from bvc's site (www.gnomethemes.org IIRC), but it seems to be down.

freakcode

I dont know why this is so low-rated. Actually, the theme is awesome! It deserves a 2.0 version, for sure. Greets

Thanks! :) Maybe I'll try to finish it on the Lua engine (so I have a motivation to finish the Lua engine as well).

Very good, and faster as I am going to hell. Sadly, happy themes. Although, you are not our personal slave [...] Perhaps I must suggest a little radical change to the "scroll bars" like MurrinaMirev2, though not so tiny and against the same (bar) background size, something like this: | || | Do you realize it? Good work indeed!

nikulinpi

Realy nice idea. These engine provies a realy nice widgetset, but it lack configuration

aboe

Just found you're gtk2-engine... and love the effect it gives. could you please continue on this.

hellblade

Hi. I just wanted to know if you are going to improve it. Will you, please? I love it!

joakim

Any idea what this is about? jryden@blade:~/Desktop/mirage-engine-0.1$ ./configure --prefix=/usr configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in . ./.. ./../..

olinux

execute ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr instead of configure

cimi86

Simply beautiful! As always!!! Keep on it, I'm not experienced like you in cairo rendering and coding... Great Work!!! Cimi

Thanks a lot! :)

* Mirage-NORMAL uses the lighter normal background color of your gtk theme. * Mirage-SELECTED uses the bg selected color in the gtk theme and if your gtk theme specifies a metacity color to use, as the mirage gtk themes do, it will use that color. webpage http://gnomethemes.org/?p=57 screenies http://gnomethemes.org/pre/Mirage.jpg http://gnomethemes.org/pre/Mirage.jpg download http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/mcity/Mirage-NORMAL.tar.gz http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/mcity/Mirage-SELECTED.tar.gz

dborg

Great work! :) I just think that the glass effect on the NORMAL version is too strong for the bright color, so it doesn't look believable. I'd like it better as it is on the inactive windows from the SELECTED version. Also I think the button prelight effect should be more subtile on unfocused windows (keeping them white, just adding saturation).

bvc

Thx! updated Mirage-NORMAL... any better? do more of the same?

dborg

The effect on SELECTED still looks smoother to me, but it's almost perfect now!

bvc

I can certainly make it that way but then it's not like the menubar. update: I have lightened the highlight image and added to the inactive prelight button though. I didn't want to lighten the highlight because now it doesn't match the menubar gradient, however the fact that it is on the light bg and caused the titlebar to go flat drove me nuts! Still does it, but not as quite bad. If I knew where the engine was going I'd know better what to do. You mentioned keeping the ubuntulooks depends, but is that for the buttons? I could lessen the glass effect on the metacity buttons and titlebar (smoothing it out) and ditch the highlight but.... then there's another gradient/glass on the scrollbar.... :/

dborg

There isn't anything in particular from ubuntulooks that I want to keep, I just want to keep the dependency so I don't have to re-implement everything. Of course if it would turn out at some point that ubuntulook isn't used anymore, I would remove the dep. So I wouldn't mind doing a new button design, but only if I see a great mockup or have an inspiration for something that I like better than the current ubuntulooks design. "could lessen the glass effect on the metacity buttons and titlebar (smoothing it out) and ditch the highlight but.... then there's another gradient/glass on the scrollbar...." I think the buttons should definitely keep their glass effect. In general, maybe a good rule of thumb would be to use the glass effect only for dark elements or at least to keep it almost invisible on light elements (similar to the ubuntulooks buttons). I'm very open to suggestions (especially mockups). My main intention for Mirage is for it to be a fun and unique theme and to invite experimentation.

k....I just can't stop once I've started....I hate that sometimes. compiz was requested.... It's not polished, but it's usable... http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/compiz/Mirage.cgwdtheme http://gnomethemes.org/pre/Mirage-Compiz.jpg
