Description:
I would like that when I open a dialog window (like Help->About ) the mouse cursor to jump to the default button. A control center option is needed to set this behavior on/off.

Please HELP me convince developers that this option is good by VOTING GOOD here and at the download link!

+(positive facts)
+fast response to dialog windows(especially those with Yes/No or Continue/Cancel or those with only the OK button)
+less effort in moving the mouse
+moving the mouse to the default button will make easier to click even the non-default buttons(because all buttons are close together)

-(why not implement this)
-takes the mouse control out of the user for a nanosec(how many clicks can u make in a nano secs ?! )

Is that think implemented yet?

I've had accidental clicks too but very very few. The convenience is just great, its even better with keyboards because you dont have to find the mouse -- just press enter and off you go!

I vote positive, if this was available (and worked with my mouse) I would be one of the first to install.

I don't like this at all! Back in my Windows days I used a logitec driver with this feature and it was so annoying! It produced false (as in unwanted) clicks all the time, because it makes you click on stuff my accident.

Big this project up guys. Its not all about the experts and they have to respect what the users want.

Quite clearly Celeste hasn't got a clue what she's doing. KDE is about features and customizability. Just give me this feature and leave it to me whether I'm going to use it or not. If you wish to get a preconfigured and hard to customize desktop get yourself a Gnome.

KDE is as much about configurability as Gentoo is about compiling anything that moves. Not at all, namely. KDE is configurable because 1. no one thought of keeping it simple, or (in other cases) 2. the options are really necessary for a good user experience. Every option that you're adding increases complexity, so you have to add options with care or you'll end up with software that you can't understand anymore because they're so complex. KDE is also about efficiency and a good workflow, so they are currently cleaning out unnecessary options. It is a sign for good software if it rejects the proposals that don't bring a good usefullness vs. complexity ratio with them. As you can clearly see at the good/bad percentage, this one is such a feature, most people think similar as I do, and I love KDE for being consequent enough to not integrate every possible feature that you could think of.

KDE is as much about configurability as Gentoo is about compiling anything that moves. Not at all, namely. ---- gentoo IS about compiling, and KDE's strength (for many endusers) is manly its configurabillity. -------- KDE is configurable because 1. no one thought of keeping it simple, or (in other cases) 2. the options are really necessary for a good user experience. -------- KDE is also configurable because not everyone is the same (as the gnomes seem to think). i like to have it work my way, not the developers way, thank you. ------ Every option that you're adding increases complexity, so you have to add options with care or you'll end up with software that you can't understand anymore because they're so complex. KDE is also about efficiency and a good workflow, so they are currently cleaning out unnecessary options. ------ are you really talking about KDE here? first, it is utterly bullshit options clutter anything. they barely make software slower, and, if well laid out/ hidden behind an advanced button, they don't clutter an interface. that's why KDE is still very populair - it is VERY VERY rare a KDE developer removes a feature. mostly because they are not the ppl who should decide something is 'unnecessary'. the users should decide that. ------ It is a sign for good software if it rejects the proposals that don't bring a good usefullness vs. complexity ratio with them. As you can clearly see at the good/bad percentage, this one is such a feature, most people think similar as I do, and I love KDE for being consequent enough to not integrate every possible feature that you could think of. ------ i agree proposals that make things harder to use shouldn't make it, and KDE does it very well in that regard - but i'm sure adding this option wouldn't clutter up anything and help the ppl that like it. i'd say add it (tough i won't use it).

> gentoo IS about compiling No it's not. It's about configurability, letting the user specify what he wants. Compiling the software from source following useflags is the way to achieve this. > KDE is also configurable because not everyone is the same > (as the gnomes seem to think). i like to have it work my way, > not the developers way, thank you. I guess this fits in category 2 then (the options are really necessary for a good user experience). The gnomes removed some necessary configuration stuff too, which is of course not the ideal way either. > first, it is utterly bullshit options clutter anything. > they barely make software slower, and, if well laid out/ hidden > behind an advanced button, they don't clutter an interface. in principle, i agree with you here. but, if you have a look at KControl you'll find that many of the (countless) useful options in there are side by side with the ones you hardly use. Of course having different option levels (beginner, advanced, expert) is great, but on the other hand: look how "well" it is done in the real world, and naturally every additional option makes it harder for the developers to get it right. I'm not requesting to go down to the GNOME level (eek), just to leave out unnecessary options. > mostly because [the developers] are not the ppl who should decide > something is 'unnecessary'. the users should decide that. Right, but who are the users? The ones who linger at kde-look and shout out loud to customize everything? What about the ones getting KDE provided in their work, by their system administrator, the ones who wouldn't even think of coming here? The thing is that it's difficult to know who "the users" are and what they want. If you let "the users" on kde-look have their way, you might distract other ones. So I really do think that it should be up to the developer to decide who the users are and what they need (or maybe get feedback from usability people, like Celeste who once was quoted here speaking against this specific option). And always remember that developers are users too. And as I said, if you want "the users" to decide, please have a look at the good/bad score percentage bar.

oh man. next time, I'll post with Firefox. It seems it doesn't work in Ubuntu when it worked in Gentoo.

dionis

where have i to click to get the download?

zvonSully

This is only an idea that KDE developers(represented by a KDE "useability expert") don't want to implement ! :(

AlexeyK

I think I never will use this feature, but i voted for this becuase there must as much fetures in KDE as possible [on my look]

zvonSully

Thank you for being open minded!!

Esaltato

I don't like this option either and I leave it switched OFF. The reason is the same the KDE girl is saying: I like to drive my mouse, I didn't take a klicense for nothing:)

exworm

No way, please please pretty please with sugar on top do not do this In the feature hell that has become KDE this is one feature we can afford not to have And it is a perfect paradeigm of anti-usability And no when a dialog pops up the default answer is not most likely the correct one And trust me when I say this most novice users dont like this feature and almost every "power user" (I really hate that term) hates it So please no

zvonSully

By default this option should be OFF, but should exist

tiny

Note that Celeste is not a dev but a kde usability expert. She usually knows what she is talking about in this area. Please keep that in mind.

DIHLOFOS

This is what I always missed in KDE. Nice one! Just like CD insert message box appeared just in KDE 3.5. Way too late.
