Description:
I do not like the arangement of the apps in KMenu: their are 2 many categories, but some people like it. I say that kmenu should accept styles (for example:

-developer's menu style:
___-Settings
___-...
___-Multimedia
___-Internet
_____-Konqueror
_____-Konqueror : bugs.kde.org
___-KDevelop

-Internet menu style :
___-Other
______-...
___-Settings
___-Chat apps
______-Kopete
______-XChat
______-Gaim
______-...
___-Browsers
___-Mail

These are examples and with the help of KMneuEditor anyone can make his own menu style and the upload it to kde-look.org)
I want kde to come with some menu styles and the ability to enable them from ControlCenter or from KMenuEditor.
It would be nice to be able to remove "Run Command". I find it completely useless. It was put there to make KDE resemble Windows, not because it would have any useful purpose. I have literally never used it.

It really shouldn't matter what the "standard" menu looks like as long as the initial menu is laid out in a logical fashion. What I would like to see is distros cease and desist on telling me what the menu structure ought to be and let me decide for myself. It makes absolutely no sense to have the menus that both KDE and lets say GNOME sit in the same folder sharing the same structure. It is very rare that a KDE user will use GNOME or a GNOME user, KDE.

What would really be great is the KDE team would come up with drag and drop in the menus. And then leave them alone the next time I upgrade KDE or my distro

I don't think it's possible to keep KMenu untouched by upgrades because it would also mean that new installed apps can't anounce their arrival in a standard way: appearing in the KMenu. I think it would be better to have a(n) user menu where you would be able to have the hierarchy you want, drag'n'drop, right click, whatever possibilites. To create something totally new should be easier than trying to patch that monster of KMenu. Besides, it gives us the freedom to imagine more than styles: skins. Rectangles are so boring. ;-)

the actual KDE 3.4 Kmenu structure or also the Menu-structure from MS XP is really better or more logical. :)

You must have added a dummy Image created using Gimp or Kolourpaint. A picture speaks a thousand words. I voted for this. But a Visual would help understand your WISH! Thanks!

..... but this system of menu management is called XDG and is in line with the LSB standards generated by the Freedesktop.org people. Debian started this process with Mandrake close behind. The concept is that no matter what desktop you chose for personal use the menu remains the same. So now using Gnome and KDE apps on each others, or and entirely different desktop is a lot easier. But check out what is being done with XDG at http://freedesktop.org I think you are going to like what you see. Then thank the folks with the LCC for pushing for broader adhesion to the LSB.

Just wondering, have you seen the menu SuSE has? It's exactly like your "internet" menu. The most great feature of the SuSE menu: - if you have one webbrowser installed, you'll have a "Internet/Web browser" icon. - if you have 2 browsers installed, you'll have a "Internet/Web browser/" menu :)

I don't think this is special to SuSE as Mandriva Linux does that too. BTW, I hate it.

...But what the blazes does your signature mean? I'm so confused...

janet

Most great feature? That's one of the things I hate most in the menu :)
