Description: Description: The default behavior in konqueror is to open about:blank when opening a new tab. This patch gives you the option to open your home URL instead.
Notes: There are patches for kdebase-3.2.3 and kdebase-3.3.0
Installation: Get and unpack the kdebase source.
Get and unpack konqueror-new-tabs-patches.tar.bz2.
patch -p0 < kdebase-VERSION_HERE-new-tabs.patch
Then build kdebase (or at least the konqueror part) as usual.Last changelog:
0.3 New patch for KDE 3.3
0.2.1 All known issues fixed.
0.2 Now, using your home URL is optional (which is a much better idea, really).
Please, could you make this patch work with kde 3.5.5 ?
Have about:konqueror when oppening new tab will be useful !
(Sorry for my english, im french...)
Thanks !
Hello,
I know it's not a best place for this note, but I got an idea while reading your comments: Could konqueror have an ability to close tab when clicked with Shift button? Just like Opera.
I like this.
I have a request though: my home URL is ~. If you do this, which I supsect many people do, then upon hitting the home button you are taken to your home directory (or opening a new tab now). (and I dont want to change my home: I use it often)
To get around this, you can save a URL in your webbrowsing profile, or add it to the execute string in the properties... so my point is, I think it would be nice to specify the page the new tab opens to, perhaps with one of those typical kinds of forms, Use Current, Use Home, or a space to type, sort of thing.
Just a thought.
Yes, that is something that people have mentioned to me. It would be pretty easy to add that functionality (just change it from a boolean value to a url value), but since users can already configure their start page tabs (per profile) and their home page, adding the option to configure and store yet another url seems excessive to me. Of course, it appears that a number of people consider adding even this patch to be excessive.
If people really want that option, I'll add it.
I think this is a great thing. The fact that Konqueror opens up a blank window has always bugged me. At the least I think it should be able open up the page you are currently on.
Of course these are personal preferences, so dont bash me personally just because you think differently.
Don't worry, I'm not going to bash you personally. I apologize if my response was impolite at all.
Perhaps the reason I prefer only my home page is that it's set to google, so I open a new tab very often to search for something.
Why does everyone want this to be an option while you could also just use "about:blank" as your home page?
Same effect, yet another useless option killed away.
1) I agree it should be included as an option but not default
2) I'd even more like to see a patch to make new tabs created by double clicking a la Mozilla Firefox. Just thinking out loud here.
3) What icons are you using? I reall like the new tab and close tab ones.

It is possible to add the option "Open Bookmark in new Tab" ?
It exists in KDE 3.2.3 already. Right click the bookmark you want, you can open it in a new tab/window.
e.g. in Mozilla you can open a new tab with one mouse click (left) on a bookmark. This is more comfortable than the current solution in konqueror.
This adds code and a setting for the benefit of saving the user _one_ click on the home button? No thanks.

How is that the same effect?

I'm using the Sparkling icon set which I found on kde-look.org
Oh yeah, and I think the double-clicking thing is planned for KDE 3.3.
awesome - I can't tell you how many times while using Konq I've double clicked hoping to make a new tab! LOL
well, it should be integrated, but as an option, and a non-default one.
You're right. It is now an option in 0.2.
