Ok, I've been wanting to do this for a while...
Basically, when I look at the Kubuntu logo, the three "8-tooth" gears on the logo look like small snowflakes to me.

Now... When looking at the KDE logo, I feel the gear is more "iconified" and less... well... complicated. For some reason I've always felt the KDE logo doesn't seem to be portrayed well by simply replacing the ubuntu circles with small gears.

So, I did some work on the laptop using a live cd and Gimp. I've attached 9 mock-up logos hoping for feedback. Click the links below to see each mock-up.
Cheers.
P.S. I am a fan of Kubuntu and I do like the logo, just looking for some artistic opinions, and maybe some feedback. I own 2 Ubuntu and 1 Kubuntu shirt, so I do like the current logo as I proudly wear it on my back.

many of these come up with folowing message: vBulletin Message You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: 1. You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again. 2. You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Sorry, they should be fixed now. I had some bad cross-linking going on there. -Tres
From me you'll get a thumbs up. I'm not using KUbuntu, but I have had a look at it as I'm not always happy with the hardware support (probably more a reckognition problem) in openSUSE.
I do see the point in creating a new logo: the current kubuntu logo is a bit "overloaded" for my opinion. In particular when you render it pretty small, the gears just look fiddly. Your proposals look promising to me. As soon as you have a single image containing all variants, I will gladly comment on the different variants in particular.
Agreed. I'll work on a single image tonight. Thanks. -Tres
An overview or an easier way to see all images at once would have been good. Could'nt you upload it to Flickr or something similar? Alternativly maybe a nice pdf / Impress presentation?
