somehow i never understand those 'different-size-requests'. for one thing, kde can automagically resize, if this isn't a good choice because aspect-ratios, then there's a bunch of easy-to-use tool to resize, edit canvas, do whatever.. ;)
Because scaling a 1024x768 doesn't look that nice? I prefer people just releasing the 1600x1200 version and then everyone can scale down to the size they'd like.

I agree, the quality of downsizing is always best than upsizing, using the same algo.
ever heard of quality loss when sizing a too small image to a bigger resolution?
