nice, clean and crispy, I like it.

Now this is nice. Well, this makes me want to design my own windec. How would I do that? Great work with Grover!

coreys

Just wanted to say that this windec RULES! Hands down, the best one available - nice to see something more sharp and "techie"... I'm tired of KDE always looking so goofy. This goes great with the Graphite icons and the Light Style 3rd rev widget style. Beers! Corey

A very clean, and beautifull win dec! Like it a lot! greetz Da FLoW

Where I can get version 0.4? It wasn't on your homepage and google didn't help much :)

Brandybuck

Sorry about that. It's there, I just didn't have a link for it. I've put in a link to the old version. Use "http://www.usermode.org/code/grover-0.4.tar.gz".

stic

Thanks, now I have it. I don't know why I haven't noticed this before :)

Well I don't really know where to ask, but I cannot install Grover. It works fine until I come to the make step in the process. ./configure works fine in other words... The problem is that it complains that I don't have autoconfig 2.5+ installed which I have (2.57a). Any suggestions what to do? /Henrik

Brandybuck

The problem is that the admin files don't support those recent of automake/autoconf versions. The simplest fix is to replace the admin directory with one copied from any KDE 3.1.4 package. I will do this with the next Grover release.

stunji

This might replace MKUltra as my favorite windec!

Now with adjustable frame widths this decoration is really cool. Is it possible to have also blue (or any colour) frames? thanks :-)

Brandybuck

The best place to do this is in the kdelibs, and not the theme. Support for user configurable frame and handle colors used to be in kdelibs, but it somehow got removed. When they ever get put back in (and I'm tempted to do it myself), then you'll automatically get them in Grover, since Grover DOES support those colors. In the meantime, go into your ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals file and manually add frame, inactiveFrame, handle and inactiveHandle to the WM section. Then you'll get custom colors.

REALLY nice! One suggestion: perhaps the buttons could be bigger? Otherwise, really great! I can't wait for the Grover style.

It's indeed a very nice decoration. What I don't like is that ther's no border on the sides of the window. Could you make the border width configurable? Regards, Uri

Excellent window decoration! Possibly the first one I've seen that I like as much as the new Glow. ^_^ If it's not too much trouble, an option to not have a border (that solid black line along the edges) would also be nice. IMHO, drop shadows look better without them.

Brandybuck

I've added configurable frame widths, but to get a size of zero you will need to edit your ~/.kde/share/config/kwingroverrc file and set FrameWidth to 0. The titlebar and handle will still have a black border however.

The best window decoration I've seen in a long while.

Strange, I'm getting a failure during make when it goes to create the images.h. I evidently do not have 'qembed' installed, but I have the QT3.1 dev sources installed. Is that something to do with QT-embedded? I hope I don't need to install that to get this nice windec. :) Any ideas?

Brandybuck

qembed is a tool that comes with Qt. It "embeds" an image into a header file, so that you don't need to load images at runtime. It's possible that your distro didn't include this with the Qt development tools. If you have qmake and designer, then you should have qembed as well. One possibility is that it is installed, but not in your default path. Use your package tool to see where Qt was installed. When you find qembed, add its location to your PATH variable before you run make. p.s. Are there enough distros out there that have this problem that this would become a big issue? If it's only a couple of them, I could put some notes in the INSTALL file.

ratm

No qembed in Linux Mandrake 9.1 qt3-devel package :(

Brandybuck

Cretins and Philistines! I sure hope someone files a bug with them over this. libqt3-devel should contain all the Qt development tools. Maybe they thought it was for embedded development since this package doesn't have qvfb or makeqpf either. Sigh.

Well, since this is obviously going to be a major problem with a lot of users, I'm going to have to upload a new version of Grover with a premade images.h file.

Deciare

I use qt-copy from KDE's CVS and didn't have qembed either. It doesn't appear to be compiled/installed by default, but it may just be me; I don't recall the exact parameters I passed to make.

SynTruth

THANK YOU! RH 9.0 does not seem to have qembed anywhere, though I did find a qembed.cpp file in the Tools subdir of the qt-devel, but attempts to compile it failed and I did not have too much time to monkey with it. But big thanks for creating the image.h for us. This windec looks as good as I thought it would. :)

Tropezone

Set as default for me :-) Really a good job man.

Bonkie

but I would recomment to make the vertical lines of the boxes a bit more rounded so that you hget the impression that the whole is rounded .... mmm hard to explain, hope you understand. But very nice work already
