Not my taste, but I vote 'good' for originality. I am a fan of vector art for it's flexibility as well. You can easy modify something to suite your taste or for practice. I'm just not that into stripes...
I like simple wallpapers like these. But the tarball seems messed, only alpha masks seems to be contained within it, with the text line.

I think it's good that they are just alpha masks. Then, you can use whatever color you want as the background.
yes, that's the idea, so you can choose the background color you like. =)
