Description:
Now, the next part of the Flat desktop style has been created - FlatWeather, an improved (in my opinion and "flattened" version of the "Liquid Weather ++ (by Matti)" superkaramba applet.

This applet now has a revamped, cleaner interface, with Flat weather icons (along with the older ones).

This applet works properly at my resolution (1024x768), but may look rubbish in yours - sorry

In the third preview, the colour scheme, wallpaper and iconset are all from - guess! - my Flat collection

Tell me what you think...
Last changelog:

0.3b - changed icons, added missing ones, etc. Hopefully this should fix the problems people have been having...
Tell me your successes!

0.3 - modifed more weather icons.

0.2 - Resized some of the Flat icons to make them fit.

Also, changed the license from LGPL to GPL at request of Matti (author of Liquid Weather).

0.1 - Initial release

I downloaded this and it only contained weather.py, verdana font and done.png. I copied these files over an existing lwp and nothing happened. Please help

Hey there.. i think the flat themed tools are really great so thanks for all the effort! I'm trying to use the weather module, but i can't get it to update to any UK weather. Using BBC or weather.com both bring back a list of possible weather locations, but slecting one fails to retreive the correct weather. Searching for a US one is fine. Even typing in the code (e.g. EGGD for Bristol, UK) doesnt' work. Starting in a terminal window yo ucan see it go off and grab some web stuff in teh background, but it juts doesnt want to load UK weather. Any ideas? many thanks, Dave

Eh, sorry - I have only just noticed this comment :) I only modified the liquidweather applet for this, which now has some of the flat style stuff in, so I suggest - if you are still around :) - that you check that theme, and report any problems with it to its actual creator. Sorry again, Danny

Nice modification of the original theme... I like the simple style, looks good with the Reinhardt Icon Set. Good work, thank you!

dannya

Thanks - you know, I think it would look even better with the **cough** Flat **cough** iconset :) hehe http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12132

The output is Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix> Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix> Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>] 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (most recent call last): File "flat_weather.py", line 14, in ? import os ImportError: No module named os I'm using kde3.2.2 on Fedora Core 2

dannya

I am no python master - I only modified an existing theme - however, are you sure that all the python stuff is installed?

akincisor

I had to recompile superkaramba from source to get it to work. Its working now. Thanks.

I've noticed that there seems to be an icon missing for "Isolated Thunderstorms" (or some sort of Thunderstorms), but that's only because my area has had those forcast for the past week. I'm not sure if you have icons already made out for everything, or how to find out which ones you're missing (save by trial and error), but if you could make an icon for the above condition, it'd make an already great LWP Mod even better :-).

dannya

You are right - I have been using a mixture of trial-and-error and using the old icons as reference to fill out this applet. Just checking - if you change the icons to original liquid (right-click, configure, change iconset), does the thunderstorm icon appear then? If so, I will add this icon for the next release.

woloi

Yes, the thunderstorm icon appears, and the weather condition is "Isolated t-storms" (directly copied from theme). I haven't downloaded the latest version (I think you posted one between this morning and now), but I'm going to go try that now and hopefully it all works?

m1cr0phone

This runs fine on my system: it gets the weather for my area and displays temperatures for the next 5 days, but no icons for the conditions (except the big icon for the current conditions, which displays fine). I'm using weather.com as my forecast source. Should I have the icons stored in a specific directory?

dannya

Are the icons that are missing for a "sunny" forecast by any chance? Because if they are, then they are still there, but the contrast between them and the panel is crap! :) If this is the case, I will try and change these icons for the next release.

m1cr0phone

No, my forecast calls for thunderstorms all week -- and no icons are visible. Changing the iconset to weather.com's shows icons.

dannya

Try the latest release - you should not need to setup any directories, just unzip the package...

I really like your style. It's always good to see a full suite of art made, rather than just half an icon set and a wallpaper. Keep up the good work. I'm glad I could finally replace that hideous default Kontact splash.

dannya

Thanks - are you talking about the kontact splash that I submitted a while back? If you are, I thought that no-one cared about that! :)

jcphil

I know, but could you now do a Superkaramba theme for system monitoring? Then my desktop would be complete.

dannya

Sure - but which current sperkaramba theme shall I base it on? T-mon?

dannya

b.t.w. - do you use any other Flat stuff (i.e. iconset, colour scheme, etc)? If you do, I would really like to see a screenshot :)

dannya

OK, I have "flattened" and modified the "TMon" system monitoring applet - here are the results: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12503

kilativv

Very nice and consistent theme. Good job!

telex

The franchise moves on ;-) By the way, am I correct in thinking you work with SVGs? The reason I ask is that I'm working on a new freedesktop.org project, based around the Lila iconset I'm working on with GNOME, Xfce, Enlightenment and other platform people, for SVG icons. We're working both on: o A reference set of icons o A set of tools to cope with porting between desktops o A set of tools to do interesting things with SVGs (currently we can change colourschemes) We're also possibly going to work through fd.o to unify the icon specs for all desktop environments that work with fd.o, so that porting becomes a thing of the past. If you'd like to do this, drop me an e-mail (look at my profile, and my web site, and you'll find it).

dannya

Yup, I work in SVG's, using Inkscape. > If you'd like to do this, What exactly do you have in mind?

telex

Well, if you see this in time, drop into #lila-icons on freenode at 14:00 GMT. We're having our first proper live discussion about the project, so you can join in and we can discuss flat as well properly. Otherwise... we have in mind pretty much what I wrote above :) You could import your flat theme into the CVS repository, and then it'd provide a second, KDE-only icon theme to work on re:the utils we're developing. If you know any Python, or indeed any other programming language, you could also help develop these utils.
