I would like to suggest that the theme check for the availability of the nvidia-settings program and then that the temperature attributes are supported. If either of these are not available then an error message or dialog could be given to the user with an explanation... Good idea for a theme!
unfortunately, 'nvidia-settings -q all' doesn't mention any temperature-related information. as someone said above, it is therefore physically impossible. at least i think so...
thanks anyways,
ogott
I Have the same problem.
nvidia-settings -q all lists no gpucoretemp :(. So what can i do?
I know it has a termal senor cause i can watch the temps under windows.

PS: Geforce 6800GT drivers 1.0-6111, nvidia-settings version 1.0 (27. July 2004)
well.... a Nvidia GeForce 4 440 MX has got a fan but has not got a thermal diode or any other thermal sensor. (lets say it short: it's pysicaly impossible).

doesn't work for my GeForce Go FX5700 neither :( "nvidia-settings -q gpucoretemp" says that 'GPUCoreTemp' isn't available on my computer.
try "nvidia-settings -q all", this should list all the attributes. Then check if there is a temperature attribute listed.

Hmm... If nvidia-settings is able to show temperatures, then it should be possible to get it to work.
If the card has a thermal sensor :-)....
