Description:
Jidohki (jp. for automatic mechanism) is a system monitor based on Automatik 1.0 by Fabien Henon.
It has many improvements and fixes over Automatik.

Improvements:
- Improved graphics and overall look.
- Anything is now fully localised, including even the date.
- Languages now supported are English, French, German and Italian. Any further translations are welcome, but due to a bug in SuperKaramba´s unicode handling, special characters (accents, umlauts etc.) as well as non-western characters (Japanese, Russian, Greek etc.) do not work.
- On-the-fly language change: right click > Configure theme > Configure language, choose you language and click on OK, then right-click and select Reload theme.
- added Arch Linux and Linspire to the distro list (Mandriva, Ubuntu, RedHat, Fedora, OpenSuse, Mint, Centos, Mepis, Slackware, PC Linux OS). If you´re still missing your distro, just post a comment.
- Qt version added.
- IP address is regularly updated and is only shown when connected.
... and more

Fixes:
- Time is properly updated, so no discrepance to taskbar clock anymore.
- Cpu temperature only shown if supported, no lone C hanging around anymore
- Process list columns don´t jump around wildly anymore
- IP adress is now properly shown for eth0
- all-caps screaming that littered the entire theme has been removed
... and more

Automatic detection:
- user@domain, kernel, distro, Kde, Qt, uptime, localised date (en/fr/de/it).
- Cpu with up to 8 cores, shows frequency and temperature for each.
- Running processes, shows name, Cpu%, Resources used and user name for each.
- Total, free and used memory for Ram and swap partition.
- Mounted partitions, shows unix name, device name, capacity, used and free space for each.
- Network interfaces (wired or wireless), shows IP addresses, transfer graph, up-/download speed and up-/downloaded amount.

(lm_)sensors and kross should be installed and configured, but are not absolutely neccessary.
If you have kernel 2.6.31 and up, you need not install sensors and hddtemp, as they do not work there.
The kross package is called libkross on Mandriva/Ubuntu/PC Linux OS, Python-kde4 on Suse and kross-python4 on Fedora.

English and Japanese readmes are included. The font used by this theme is also included.

Please install Jidohki using SuperKaramba's "Get New Stuff" option.
Last changelog:

Version 1.3.3 (2010-Jan-19)
- updated Kde version text to display properly for beta and RC versions of Kde

- added support for dsl0/dsl1/dsl2 connections to Network section

Version 1.3.2 (2009-Dec-29)
- changed method of reading cpu core temp (next to cpu name) so it doesn't require 'sensors'

- Process Overview now always shows four items

- vga card detection changed so it doesn't use 'lspci' anymore

- Note: 'sensors', 'hddtemp' and 'lspci' require root privileges as of kernel 2.6.31, so they don't work anymore here. I only found an alternative to 'lspci' yet.

Version 1.3.1 (2009-Oct-2)
- Improved Process Overview formatting.

- Improved Portuguese translation. (thanks to powtrix)

- Added image for generic Intel Cpu.

Version 1.3 (2009-Sep-30)
- Added Cpu temperature to the right of the Cpu name.

- Added Sensor Information section. You need to have the lm-sensors package installed to have it displayed. It will show you temperatures of Cpu, Case and Northbridge, as well as three case fan speeds. Note: it can be that your mainboard doesn´t show some of the temperatures or fan speeds.

- To account for the new content, the default height has been increased to 1050.

Bugfix (2009-Sep-20)
- Temperature monitoring bug fixed

Version 1.2 (2009-Sep-20)
- Added Portuguese language. (thanks to powtrix)

- Added Video Card section which shows the video card model. If you have an Ati card and Ati Catalyst installed (fglrx and Control Centre), then you'll also get infos about core and memory clock speed as well as Gpu load and temperature bar graphs. To disable the vga card section, quit SuperKaramba and go to this folder:
/home/tokugawa/.kde4/share/apps/superkaramba/themes/Jidohki
Rename Jidohki.py, then rename Jidohki.py.no-vga to Jidohki.py and restart SuperKaramba.

- To account for the new content, the default height has been increased to 1000. If this is still not enough for you, quit SuperKaramba and edit the following file with KWrite:
/home//.kde4/share/apps/superkaramba/themes/Jidohki/Jidohki.theme
Enter the desired height for the height parameter (max. 1200), save the file and restart SuperKaramba.

- Support for custom styles has been added: right click > Configure theme > Configure Style. Besides the Standard Dark style, the Standard Light style and a red Ruby style has been added.

- Bar backgrounds have better visibility now.

Version 1.1 (2009-Sep-12)
Added HD model and temperature bar graph.
This feature requires the package "hddtemp" to be installed.

Version 1.0 (2009-Sep-0

Happy New Year.

KuramuHasukaru

Version 1.3.1 is released now \^?^/ As I have no way to test the nvidia monitoring, I just added a link for powtrix' version.

Version 1.3 is released today! \^?^/ powtrix, I'll take a look at your suggestions for the next version.

hi! there is something is not working well here... look this image. i tried to clean up removing themes, removing superkarambarc or automatikrc and theme. it persists to load/stop at 1/4 core. what can i edit on .py to test? I did some tests but no success :-s any idea? http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3336/pow20090923042244.png

fabienhenon

Yes, I have the same here. I see nothing below the first CPU You have left an Apos instead of a Apo on line 536 in your main .py file " CpuSensorTemp=Apo+" Fabien

KuramuHasukaru

Ok, fixed that bug now. I didn't catch this before because I have a Cpu that isn't supported by lm-sensors yet, so the code in question was never called.

powtrix

Hi, thanks for fix it, now I can use the new features. I fixed other things here: Jidohki/Jidohki.py (all): http://paste2.org/p/442507 Jidohki/translations.py (diff): http://paste2.org/p/442501 Intel CPU image: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6789/intelcore2quad.png snap: http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2701/pow20090928184031.png bye

Good job with this Jidohki. I was using Automatik so far, but this one is even better. Keep up the good work.

powtrix

Hi. I tried to test myself here with your theme but something did not work. when you post the update will try again.

powtrix

Automatik 1.1 is ok (Except some ç ã õ chars) waiting the update from there. bye

KuramuHasukaru

New version is out, check Changelog above. As I already wrote above, SuperKaramba can't handle Unicode properly - therefore you can't use special characters of any sort (including your ç ã õ chars). You can quit SuperKaramba and then try to put your special characters into the translations.py file. After restarting, you'll see that the special characters have turned into rubbish. If you simply try to declare all strings as Unicode, your strings will all be chopped off after two characters, so that doesn't work either. Until that SuperKaramba bug is fixed, you can't use any special characters.

Hi, I am fabien, the writer of AutomatiK. Although the colours are 'too flashy' to my taste, you have made some nice improvements over AutomatiK(new language, translations, layout of the disk) There are one bug left and two improvements : - With Jidohki, my IP address does not appear. - The meter bars are not visible enough ( not enough contrast with the background) - The title are not with capital letters any more I do not have much spare time to do improvements on AutomatiK, that is why the last update dates back from July. This could be suggestions; here is a list of things I want to add to AutomatiK : * Add a mouse icon on the right side of the title bar for the clickable areas (top, disks,..) * Add a clickable area to "system information" which would open kinfocenter * Detect the language installed by default on the system and start with the proper language use command : karamba.userLanguage(widget) * Add Portuguese language. I'll send you the translation sent by powtrix * Add theme with others colours (selectable with a right click ?) * Add a theme which is 1200 pixels high. Some people with many mounted disks cannot fit all the meters into the theme (800 pixels high) If you do not want or have the time for the suggestions above, I hope I'll have to time to add them to AutomatiK during my next holidays.

> With Jidohki, my IP address does not appear. Jidohki checks (in this order) wlan2, wlan1, wlan0, ppp2, ppp1, pp0. I figured this are the most used ones. What are you using? > The meter bars are not visible enough (not enough contrast with the background) I think you mean the backgrounds of the meter bars, right? Looks ok to me, but I could give them less transparency to make them more visible. > The title are not with capital letters any more This is by design, as they look just plain ugly in all caps. > Add a mouse icon on the right side of the title bar for the clickable areas (top, disks,..) Why? I don't see a reason for an additional clickable mouse icon. > Add a clickable area to "system information" which would open kinfocenter I think I could do this, e.g. by clicking on the distro logo. > Add Portuguese language. I'll send you the translation sent by powtrix I didn't get anything yet. Also, Jidohki has a few additional strings, so I'll send him a message if he can translate those as well. > Add a theme which is 1200 pixels high. Some people with many mounted disks cannot fit all the meters into the theme (800 pixels high) I can do that, but height should be 1050 pixels: resolution 1920x1080 minus taskbar height.

fabienhenon

Hi I have just uploaded a new update of AutomatiK in which you will find the portuguese translation Fabien

>> With Jidohki, my IP address does not appear. >Jidohki checks (in this order) wlan2, wlan1, wlan0, ppp2, ppp1, pp0. I figured this are the most used ones. What are you using? I am using either eth0 or eth1. (an ISP box) >> The meter bars are not visible enough (not enough contrast with the background) >I think you mean the backgrounds of the meter bars, right? Looks ok to me, but I could give them less transparency to make them more visible. >> The title are not with capital letters any more >This is by design, as they look just plain ugly in all caps. Well that a question of taste >> Add a mouse icon on the right side of the title bar for the clickable areas (top, disks,..) >Why? I don't see a reason for an additional clickable mouse icon. I am not sure people read all the text on the karamba page and know that there are clickable areas >> Add a clickable area to "system information" which would open kinfocenter >I think I could do this, e.g. by clicking on the distro logo. >> Add Portuguese language. I'll send you the translation sent by powtrix >I didn't get anything yet. Also, Jidohki has a few additional strings, so I'll send him a message if he can translate those as well. AFAIK, we can not post enclosed files on kde-look. I would need your email. You can use translations.py from AutomatiK >> Add a theme which is 1200 pixels high. Some people with many mounted disks cannot fit all the meters into the theme (800 pixels high) >I can do that, but height should be 1050 pixels: resolution 1920x1080 minus taskbar height. Maybe a 800, 1050 and a 1200 pixels will do

KuramuHasukaru

Please install Jidohki only using SuperKaramba's "Get New Stuff" option. It will not work as a .skz (which is why I didn't provide it as a .skz). About it not running properly, perhaps something was left over from your first installation attempt. Try the following to clean up: Open SuperKaramba's "Get New Stuff" and uninstall Jidohki. Then right-click on the SuperKaramba icon in the taskbar, select "Quit" and delete the following folder: ~/.kde4/share/apps/superkaramba/themes/Jidohki Then delete the config file here: ~/.superkaramba/Jidohki.rc After that, restart the computer (just to be sure). Then, install Jidohki again using "Get New Stuff".

Thanks :)

Hi, The widget seems to be very nice. However, I have some problem installing it. I renamed the archive (put an extension .skz) and I did the following steps: "Right-Click --> Add Widgets --> Install New Widgets --> Install Widgets From Local File --> SuperKaramba Desktop Theme" After that the entry appeared in the widget list, but when I tried to add it to the desktop I saw just an empty space. I am using Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2.2. I also have all the packages you mentioned installed. Any ideas? Thanks.

kot-begemot

I also tried installing the theme directly by running SuperKaramba ("Get New Stuff" option) and this time the System Information and the Cpu Information sections showed but the other entries were still missing and the widget detected only one of the two cpu cores of my computer.
