Description:
KplasMon is one of many Karamba desktop widgets that I have created. Originally made for friends and other users of my network, as well as myself. I will be posting them here, as time allows.

A number of changes to each are being made, in order they be suitable for a broader range of system configurations out there. So, no real fancy stuff as such, unless anyone asks for it to be included in the updates, of which I will be more than happy to do

The widgets inherit the current Plasma Desktop Theme for their look, and although you will need SuperKaramba installed on your system, the widgets are run as Plasmas. Until I can find a way around the text colors not being viewable on all themes, I will include two versions of each widget for download. One with white text, the other with black.

Requires:
=========
SuperKaramba (obviously)
hddtemp
lm_sensors

Install:
========
Download and unpack the .tar.gz file containing two .skz files. Open the 'Add Widgets' dialogue, and click the 'Install New Widgets' button. From the drop down menu, select 'Install From File'. Another dialogue box will show. Select 'SuperKaramba: Karamba Desktop Theme'. Locate the downloaded .skz files from the file chooser that shows. Once you have found and selected them, click the 'Finish' button.

If you are updating a previous version of KplasMon, you will be prompted whether or not to overwrite an existing file... you do, right? just click 'Overwrite'

All done, just go down the list of Plasmas and select your new widget.

Since I checked in on this page. Due to work commits elsewhere, I have not had much time to do any updates to this or even start work on the Plasma Widget version. I have not forgotten... and will try to find time. In the meantime, many thanks to those who downloaded. Almost 900 at the time of posting. I really did not think it would sell so well (joking) =) Many Thanks

Could you post a link to the wallpaper in the second screenshot ? possibly widescreen ? thnx

hostmaster2

Sure, no problem =) You can download the wallpaper from: http://www.kde-look.org/CONTENT/content-files/97625-the_bay-1600x1200.jpg However, as the file name indicates, it is only 1600x1200. I had a look elsewhere to see if could find a larger version for you, but no luck.

Thank you very much for your effort :D

Hello, Whilst I really like this theme, I have the same problem with it that I have with every other Karamba theme that uses lm_sensors - the temperature never displays. The only time it works right is in the default KDE 4 System Monitor Plasmoid and Yasp. I've got lm_sensors installed and it works fine from the command line. Since all this works in Kubuntu, I am going to assume it's because I'm using Arch Linux. So maybe lm_sensors isn't where it is for Kubuntu users or others. I really have no idea where to start. Can you help? Thx

hostmaster2

Hi Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will look into why this is happening, in the coming days... in fact I will make that priority.

ladykatlyn

Thanks! Also a bit of googling reveals that some people have problems getting all the sensors to work on various system monitors and usually edit the code themselves, if that helps. I only found stuff on the Ubuntu forum about it, though.

hostmaster2

You are correct in that, many do have problems with sensors. It was only a last minute decision to try and write in a CPU Temp monitor, prior to going public... maybe that was a bad move, given that the whole idea was to, make it compatible with a broader range of systems =( Still, I will endeavour to solve the problem. Maybe you could PM me the spec of your system?. The reason I ask, is that its maybe down to how the monitor script calls on lm-sensors and the info being thrown back... for example, there are plus of ten ways I could call on lm-sensors from a script. And, the one being used currently, is not it =D Again, thank you for your feedback =)

Gkrellm still is in the repos but with KDE it looks awful. I can't make it transparent or anything. It does not play well with plasma. But right now I'm using Conky, which does not play well with plasma either,it does not stay below the upper cashew.

hostmaster2

Been a while since I used Gkrellm, so I downloaded it, along with the many themes, and installed it... Mmmm, well, I see what you mean. Uninstalled Gkrellm

darthanubis

I await your plasma widget as well. I miss Gkrellm.

hostmaster2

Thank you... The Plasma is taking a while to write due to work commits, and trying to maintain other projects. I also need to ensure that it will work on all variants of KDE4, before I release it problem free. An old habit of mine =) BTW.. I thought Gkrellm was still available in the repositories...

i'd like to use just the plasmas without running superkaramba and plasma together and eating more resources. Why don't you create a plasma version of it? there is a lack of good plasma system monitors

hostmaster2

You are right... there simply are not enough good plasmas around. And, as you know, to run a decent monitor can put further demand on the system, using karamba and Plasma Desktop. A trade off. However, I am working on a plasma widget at the moment. With any luck, it should resemble the karamba widget, but without the demand :)

cimdrap

i'll keep looking for your updates

hostmaster2

Thank you for that... do be aware though, that it may take a while, much due to work commits. Not too long, I hope :)

kai100

thank you :)

hostmaster2

Thank you for your comment... glad you like it :)
