I had the same problem. I guess in original KDM it is not possible to have transparent background. SuSE has some patch for that. I have taken this patch, prepared a new KDM ebuild for my Gentoo, compiled and now I have transparent background apart from selected user which has still some background.
I have downloaded kdebase3-3.5.1-69.src.rpm from some FTP with SuSE mirror and inside there required patch with the name kdm-make_it_cool.diff.
I have adapted it for Gentoo and prepared ebuild and now I have nice KDM :-)
I like the theme except it took me a while to install. Currently, I am using SuSE 10.1 and KDE 3.5.1 and found no ~/.kde/share/config/kdm/kdmrc file. After some research I found the file I was looking for located in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and according to the file the place it looked for themes was in /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/themes . I changed the config file and added the theme and no more default SuSE screen.
I did nothing. Really. I took one ready KDM thing and one ready wallpaper and one ready Linux:) Thanks for your compliment, but let it be to others, original authors, not to me :)

unfortunately the user info boxes has ugly blue rectangle background. Please fix this, with correction it would be the nicest KDM theme I saw.
Can anyone fix the white box problem in Kubuntu? This would make things perfect for me (i'd have everything on a raindrop type theme!)! Any help?

I'm using it but userlist is not transparent here. Since I'm using latest kdm my guess is that your distro (suse?) has a specific patch for it....
splash theme to go with this?

are you using suse? your distro should have a partch for kdm userlist, please specify which distro are you using.
very nice.....I really like the suse 10 setup, and the background makes it even better :)
