Description: This a set of Ubuntu Start buttons. They are designed in the style of Windoze XP. I have included green, brown, and orange as well as blank ones so you can add your own logo if you would like. For instructions on using the Ubuntu Start buttons on your panel refer to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=381182&postcount=4 Hope you enjoy!Last changelog:
-added large versions (98px X 30px) -added orange versions
The artwork is good - It doesn't fit my desktop but technically, it is good work :) - did you make them from scratch or use the Windows images - perhaps you are being voted down because people think there is no more work than taking a screenshot involved in the post
If that is the case then my rant below is irrelevant :P
Until we as a community can learn to be objective about what is good about other operating systems we stand very little chance of moving forward. Child like reflexes against things coming from Windows are not helpful to the community.
This kind of behaviour would be obsurd in other areas - you can't imagine a car manufacturer using square wheels just because someone else is using round ones. Ideas should be rated on merit
I wonder what made me so moody :)
Thanks.
I did not do them completely from scratch. I combined some various grahpics that I have collected. I did do some GIMP work and such. To me it is great when you do things from scratch, but I see nothing wrong with putting other's ideas and work into a new form. That is what I love about Open Source.

Thank you very much.
I am always amazed at how some Linux users will go on and on about "freedom" and "choice" only to turn around and bash someones ideas because it doesn't fit into their idea of what Linux is.

I have noticed that the rating is dropping fast. Is this due to a general dislike for all things Windoze or is it a dislike for the artwork? I would love to know.
Thanks, Jereme
I don't know what the others think, but I don't like trying the Linux desktop to look like Windows. It's not Windows and hopefully it won't be.
Windows (mainly XP) is one the worst artist/designer work ever. I really can't understand why people insist on it. OSX looks much better, the default KDE looks much better and also the default GNOME looks much better.
Thank you for an honest response. I understand your position quite well. Many Linux users feel this way. Now let me say that I am not some brand new Linux user who is suffering from seperation anxiety from Windoze. In fact I am a committed Ubuntu Linux user and have been for several years now. The only Windoze that I have on my laptop is my Vmware Windoze. I agree that OSX, KDE, and Gnome all look great, and I will admit that Windoze XP is not that "pretty". I do however think that new users to Linux might stick with it longer if the transition was a little easier. I also must admit that I actually like some aspects of the Windoze XP theme such as the Start button. Anyway, I appreciate and respect your opinion. I love Linux and always will. I just want to see it on every computer before my son graduates for High School. He is 3 now. So let's get to work! haha

Despite being an ubuntu user, I find that statement totally laughable. XP looks fine without the user having to troll sites like this all the time to get a coherent look on their desktop. And if you ask me, the very popularity of this site says quite enough about the default look of KDE and GNOME.

most often when the rating seems low on windows-based art, it's because of the fact it's windows-based and not quality, as seen here :)

Personally I like it. People get too hung up on the whole "it looks like Wind0$3!!!" So it looks like windows big deal. You have done a nice job.

Because it's bad idea and bad artwork
Thank you for such an honest answer. Jereme
OMG O_O

Perhaps the "Start" text is a bit much. If it was simply the Ubuntu logo, it would probably do better.
