I had built a 486SX/33 (well, that was the mobo and I added assorted parts to make a computer). The case reminded me a bit of HAL (without the big globe). But I named it "Hal" anyway. I had Win95 at the time (legit) and it sure fit the computer's personality. ;)

I never thought of HAL 9000 being windows related. Now it all makes sense ! The questioning my actions, the 'know it all' attitude XP exudes.
Wow, how did they know our PC's would eventually try to kill us off ?

...I think of my XP computer as more HAL-ish -- The random actions, vague intelligence, condescension, and, finally, it's attempts at murder (or induced suicide). Nice!
