How install this tool
Glad you are interested, but this is just a sketch not a tool or app. Look what permafrost91 said, we'll have to wait until OO 3 for a new user interface.
damage :(
The one thing I choose OO over MS Office was the interface...sure it is pretty and has a lot of eye-candy. But for power-users like me, it is a waste of space. I used to know where things were, but now...
That is the cost of change. Learning again the UI. Good UIs support customization and settings for advanced users.
I really like the style of „MS Office 2007“ and in my opinion it would be great if open-office gets a new style. But it will never gets the same style like ms office because even if the ms design is more productive the persuaded Linux user would not use it just because it is inspirited by ms.
I think OOo is planning for a new style for the 3.x series (which, if I remember correctly, is due for the end of this year)
Since monitors tend to be wider, the ms choice is a bad option IMHO.
thats not a bad idea. but i think, ms office 2007 has copyright for this solution.
They've probably patented it, but there's prior-art in the form of Blender's "ribbon".

OpenOffice GTK+?
yes, it can abstract gtk+ widgets, perhaps you may install openoffice-gtk or openoffice-gnome or however your distro calls it, if it ships it.
Not WxWidgets? OpenOffice isn't GTK+.
It uses a plugin, which abstracts _gtk_ widgets not wxwidgets, just like eclipse or firefox do.
