Description: nautilus is a great browser but let´s make it still greater! this is my idea for a the nautilus toolbar, which is customizable like the firefox toolbar. i made a mockup that shows how this can work. the separator element can be used more than one time. the elements, which are already in the toolbar, are not shown in the window. maybe this can go into gnome 2.16!Last changelog:
the second screenshot shows how a customized toolbar can look like
I'd add an option to replace File, Edit, View,... for just one Menu button so everything should fit in just one line. Some people (like me) can manage most of the time with the buttons without using the menus so I don't need that space 99% of the time.
I'm sure i'm not alone in thinking that nautilus is sorely lacking in features. Things like what you describe shouldn't be that much to expect, yet even awkward and ugly file managers (konqueror) or mildly evil file managers (explorer) do things that nautilus only dreams of. I hope developers catch on to this at some point.
i agree. if i compare nautilus with konqueror, i must say that konquereor seems to be years better. i´m not a coder, but i think from 2.12 to 2.14 nautilus got one feature, and this was the serach plugin. Maybe much has been done behind the GUI but i think, nautilus develops too slow
yeah, search plugin...beagle. It can't find any file :(
Only usable for IM logs and webpages ;(
The toolar customize feature would be nice. But i don't use it anyway :)
Could you give examples of what it's lacking? I can't think of any right now...
I think Konqueror goes way too far and is bloated beyond use. Also KDE's whole philosophy for GUIs is "clutter and confuse". Not that Gnome is perfect in any sense.

I second that.
the download link isn't working or is just a preview of the work you have made
This is just an idea/mockup, not a real thing
This is long overdue. I would love to see Nautilus get a few more features and this one would be a great start!
