Description:
Well, this is my first attempt at really making anything on here. I'm too tired to tell if this looks good or not, and KDE loads too fast for me to see if this really looks correct when loading, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I can always modify it later. I had problems with gzipping it too, so it's a regular zip file. Extract the files to $home$/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics

If that directory doesn't exist then you probably haven't installed a splash before. Just make this directory and KDE magically uses the splash screen.
Last changelog:

Yes, I made changes to it. Chances are you either didn't like the way it looked before and would still not download it for the same reasons, you liked it before and already downloaded it, so if you don't like the changes you don't have to get this newer version (newer old-time?), or perhaps you've never even seen this little piece, in which case you wouldn't miss the old verion at all. Works out better for everyone, doesn't it?

It being a .zip does make importing it harder, as at least Kubuntu's Splash theme manager does not detect it.

This was mostly just an experiment for me to get used to doing some standard stuff on GIMP, but if people like this I might try to improve on it a bit more. I have begun work on an "old time" IceWM theme, and I cannot imagine that it would be too much effort to make some sort of wallpaper and color scheme to accompany. I have no idea how to make themes, thought.

mendred

This is one of the classiest spalsh screens i have seen if not the most. It is refreshingly different from all the aqua, themes around. Now if someone would make a theme/style for this one.

danrees

More please! This is great work. An accompanying style and WM decoration would be very nice... hint hint...

Kormac

I really like the style of it. I would use it more if there were a style and an icon theme that fitted.I particulary like the "sun-disc" version of the KDE cogs.

Kalna

for real, it great i like it VERY much. It has stile, if it's really your first attempt, then all I can say is: "Keep up the great work" :o)

mycaptain

especially the third one. Well done.

You said that you couldn't validate that the splashes icons are at the right place etc. because KDE loads too fast. To test the "splash-loading-sequence" simply enter "ksplash --test" on a terminal. That makes the whole development of a splashscreen much easier. Greetings, ian!

Oh, by the way, if anyone actually likes this it might interest them to know that I originally made the images in subtle shades of blue and dark purple. Those just didn't look "old time" enough, but if you don't think that the image is stupid and cluttered, I can post the colored version too.
