I also had problem with running this theme on Mandriva 2008.1 but I've managed to solve it.
All you have to do is simply edit Theme.rc and change the first two lines on this file:
Instead of:
[KSplash Theme: Kurumin Splash1]
Name = Thio Splash
Put:
[KSplash Theme: XMas_Splash]
Name = XMas_Splash
You may also write any other name that match the name of the folder in which the theme is installed.

Doesn't work for me either. preview just shows black and blue squares. do we need to install something beforehand to make this work properly?
Nice theme, but it doesn't' seem to be working for me..
