Description:
Ksplash, Grub splashimage and KDM theme in one debian package.

HOW TO SET GRUB SPLASHIMAGE

Open the file /boot/grub/menu.lst

In the generic section search for the following lines:
# Pretty colours
color cyan/blue white/blue

Insert this line after them:
splashimage /boot/grub/splashimages/debianglobe.xpm.gz

HOW TO SET KDM THEME

1. Delete the file /etc/default/kdm.d/10_desktop-base (or other override file).
2. Open KDM Theme Manager, Enable KDM Themes and choose the theme Debian Globe.

HOW TO SET KDE SPLASHIMAGE

Open KDE Control Center,
1. Modify the KDM background image:
/usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/debianglobe/Background.png (otherwise the screen will flicker during login.)
2. Choose the theme DebianGlobe.

These themes use other GPL licensed pictures.

It looks great. Just curious if you have any plans of releasing it for other distros, maybe Kubuntu?

I think, it is not a task. I used svg pictures intended for Ubuntu. You can modify these pictures with inkscape. It is very easy.

Hi! Why not just ship a override file in your package - like 20_debian_globe with appropriate content? THis way you work with the infrastructure instead of hacking around it. /Sune

What will happen if there are two override file (the original and mine) present with opposite instructions? KDE Control Center cannot work if override file present. I don't know the reason of the Debian's agressive solution. I have to read the DOC if I want to change another KDM theme. If I want the Debian's KDM, I could choose it.

"What will happen if there are two override file (the original and mine) present with opposite instructions?" I think, 20 > 10, therefore, my KDM theme will be neglected. So, I could choose the number 01 instead... The KDE's infrastucture is better for KDM themes, and the users are adult, so I choosed it.

Exact the opposite. highest number will win. That's why I suggested using "20" ;) /Sune

My main problem is the missing real "infrastructure" for this Debian style solution. KDE has a GUI integrated in the KDE Control Center. Debian has not GUI, only a poor documentation. KDE is a Graphical environment... There are several problems with the Debian policy concerning KDE. For example, the wireless connections module is freezing because KDE expect other behavior. If Debian replace anythink, it must be replaced to an existing think. At least, the module has to be removed from the KDE Control Center. My first Debian installation (Etch, "stable") suffered from data lost, because I tried to use this module... KDE has a working KDM manager. Why Debian replace it to a solution not so sophisticated?
