Description: Hi! When I first plugged-in my usb mp3 player i found that the default icon looked like an iPod. So I decided to change it because I used an mp3 "pen-drive" player. Here's my solution!
Installation: Choose your favorite color, then copy the 128x128 icons in /opt/kde3/share/icons/crystalsvg/128x128/devices the 64x64 icons in /opt/kde3/share/icons/crystalsvg/64x64/devices the 48x48 icons in /opt/kde3/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/devices etc...
These are the paths for SuSE, for other distributions copy the icons in the right path.
Enjoy!Last changelog:
30 december '05 I've added the red and green icons
It was possible to assign individual icons for usb devices before udev. I hope someone can find a way to do it with udev (and without having to create static links on the desktop). The icons are nice :)
I've never been able to use custom icons for devices, I've got a similar player, but with a SD reader included, if I plug it I see the same thumbdrive icon both for the player and the SD card, the same happens for my multicard reader, how I can change this? I'm using ubuntu 5.10 breezy with kde 3.4.3
I think that the problem is due to the fact that Linux considers your devices as belonging to the same category, so if you change the icon for one of them you'll change it for the others as well. I don't know if there's a solution for your problem.
You may create a static desktop icon for your device with this procedure:
- plug-in your device
- write media:/ in the konqueror's address bar
- drag and drop the icon of the device on your desktop and select "link here"
- change the icon as you like
- disable the device icon on your desktop
(right click -> configure your desktop -> behaviour -> device icons)
That's it.
