Description:
The 0.1.4 version provides 645 (!) different icons framed in aqua lenses both in 48x48 and 32x32 sizes. Beware, the download package is meanwhile bigger than 4 MB.

Screenshot 2: main device icons

Read the changelog for more information. You can either install Marbles as a theme or unpack it by hand and use only the icons you find attracting.
[Marbles cooperates with Conectiva's Crystal Icons. You must apply Marbles anew if you update Crystal Icons.]

-----

Marbles tries to frame already existing items from different iconsets to provide a consistent style for your desktop. Except the marble design and a few newly created icons all pictures used are other artists' stuff. This includes "art reuse" (as in "code reuse") of crystal icons, slick icons, iKons, hicolor, Acqua and different other ones found on kde-look. Thus the copyright/copyleft restrictions of the original artists still apply. I deeply hope everybody agrees with my attempt to unify the icon look for the rest of us who don't have the time and skills to create their own complete, originally, ground-breaking innovative theme If you don't consent, please let me know.
Last changelog:

* added 337 new icons

* deuglyfied a few Marbles

* changed the colours of some Marbles to make the grouping more consistent

* created a new contributions file

I have unpacked it and changed some icons on desktop. But I cann't change the trash icon. How to do? And how to rename "trash" to an other name? Anybody know?

linai

BTW:I use redhat8 and kde3.

PreacherDave

So where's the 0.1.4 transparent set?

Markus

"When it's done" ;-) Releasing it this month would cause too much traffic on my website. You have to wait at least until 1st of august.

PreacherDave

Alrighty. So I can expect them around the same time as the new POV-Ray 3.5 source. ^_^

...is not real, right? I mean, is it possible to have so nice buttons in kde? This is not hp liquid, surely.

Markus

It's possible since a *very* long time. It's Aqua Graphite by Aronnax (KDE-look content=154).

mathjazz

now I remember. I wish mosfet to do something in that way...

I love your icons. Keep up the great work! One Suggestion: Combine the 2 latest Marble releases. marbles 0.1.2 Translucent and Solid. Make a tar.gz version with 2 folders one for the translucent and one for the solid version. There are so many marbles releases it will be easier this way. If you need more space I think I can host your icons so when people click download they will download it from me. Anyway great job and keep up the great work.

Markus

True, there are too many Marble releases and while 0.1.3 raises its ugly head I'm reconsidering my packaging policy. The biggest disadvantage of combining all "editions" into a very large package is that it wouldn't be possible to install and deinstall it the default way - via the Control Center. This is IMHO *very* important for the vast majority of users, because it's an easy way to try a new icon set and to get rid of it afterwards CLEANLY! [Other advantages of seperate packages are the smaller download size, the possibility to inherit other icon sets and that you don't have to copy anything by hand] Nonetheless I *will* reduce the number of packages.

but i must confess I am a fan of these icons, and i also think i prefer the solid version. Yes, some icons become too small in the "drop", but remember that the author did not design the original icons. Some other icons, on the other hand, come out great in their "marble" form! Icon designers should also consider people who do not use 64x64 for their icons ... Crystal for instance,, imho, looks pretty bad in anything smaller than 64x64 ...

respect design and original idea! please, please dont use my logo this way... dont breake it - if you create an icon use only logo without text... if you want source, contact me, please...

Markus

I'm very sorry - I have feared this was going to happen anytime soon. As owner of the icon design you have of course all rights about it. I will take it out ASAP and contact you via email. Didn't intend to insult you with using and changing your artwort! Sorry.

- mail: markus@flauta.de - undelivered - so this way... markus, accepted :) do

Dont listen to these buffoons, they dont know what quality or style is. I LOVE your icon set! I am more of liking the solid than the translucent. Keep up the good work. Wiedersehen

This icon set may look quaint, but it's hard to use, as the real icon is small inside of the 'marble'. The icons only come in 48x48 size, so you would need to set your panel to large to see them (although it's interesting to set it to medium - then the icons pop up in a bubble when moused over). On the desktop they look worse than the default - I'm sticking with Crystal, which I copied over the top of the hicolor icon directory, so it's the default on my system now.

Markus

... are included since 0.1.2. For the rest - well, that's your personal opinion. :-)

ZIOlele

...ehmm i'm the oly one that have problems with your icons??(only those that are trasparent like 3floppy.png) it seems that my kde don't want to display them correctlybut if i see them with gimp they are just fine... have some ideas?_?

Markus

Although I tried different settings I can't reproduce any display errors. Sorry. It works with me. Either I made a "brown paperbag" error or maybe one of your graphic libraries is too old (or your wallpaper uses the alpha channel).

dustinlovell

Did you ever figure out how to fix that? The icons I downloaded are transparent in kde3, and in the gimp. I've got 2 machines, and the only one doing this is my laptop. Any ideas?
