Description:
I made "Efficient", a Kopete style, because i needed a style that does not waste screenspace (sometimes a whole line is sacrifised just for the contact name), and shows me all information (names and times) in a clean fashion.
It nicely aligns the message texts, adds a bit of subtile color here and there, and it doesn't repeat the names for every message; altogether this makes the whole thing more readable.

Apart from efficiency I also tried to make it look sweet. See and judge for your self.
If you don't like it it is quite easy to modify it because I made a values-block where you can -- for instance -- easily modify the color values.

See also the 'single' derivative of this style. It is not soooo good looking as this style but is therefor lower in resource usage and might work better on older versions of Kopete.
You find it here:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30386

### Install instructions ###
Installing this style very easy! Below you find several ways to install it... Hopefully one of them is to your likings

## the 'easy' way
Go to Kopete -> Settings -> Configure Kopete -> Appearance -> ChatWindow -> click "Import" button
Fill in this URL for Efficient:
http://kde-look.org/content/download.php?content=26318&id=1
Or this URL for Efficient-single:
http://kde-look.org/content/download.php?content=30386&id=1

click OK, and there it is. To get rid of the shitty name you can 'Copy' it to a different name and then 'Delete' the original.

## the generic way
click the download link on this site and put the file in:
~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/styles/

## the console way (the ruling way)
just copy paste this -- as one line -- to your console and all should work well:

mkdir -p ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/styles/ && wget http://kde-look.org/content/files/26318-Efficient.xsl -O ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/styles/Efficient.xsl

## the KNewStuff way
this theme should also be in KNewStuff. if you don't know what that means try one of the above ways

Let me know what you think of it!
And don't forget to VOTE

Cheers!
Cies Breijs.

I'd really like to use this theme too.It doesn't seem to work with Kopete 0.12.3 using KDE 3.5.5

It seems that the newer Kopete uses a different format for themes. Could we expect a rewrite of this Kopete theme so that we can continue using it with delight?

ntony

Does this theme no more supported? The "Import" option doesn't exist in my Kopete 0.12.3, and I did tar the xsl myself and install. But Kopete returns an error to me saying this theme does not contain a valid chat window. This theme looks cool. I wanna try it out/ :(

Hi, first of all, efficient is the best Kopete theme I know and it's actually quite perfect for me. Yet I have found a bug that doesn't mean I can't use it but it is still quite annoying. I hope I get the following right so you can understand, what I mean (I'm a non-native English speaker). To describe my problem better I put up a screenshot at: http://phlogfile.de/kopete_efficient_bug.png So, here I go: The problem occurs only with highlighted messages with this blue box. As my nick is usually longer as the standard indentation. That would mean that the first line of my message starts more right hand than the following lines. As I often use GPG-encrypted messages the whole message is then sent in such an "highlighted message _box_" (the box thing is the point). As the box in your theme is exactly as wide as the window content minus the standard intendation you get such an horizontal scroll bar which isn't nice at all. I'm afraid I'm absolutely no XSLT man so I can't fix it myself. It would be great if you could have a look at this and make the box thing not as wide. Would be great. Thanks in advance. greetings, Hantilles

Completely cool! You made my GoogleTalk dreams come true!

...but... any chance of squeezing the date of each message in there? I do a lot of chatting on business matters & regularly look back at the date. Problem is, there is no obvious place to put it... Anyway, just something to think about.

Bonkie

Yes, the date would make it perfect !! Looks very good already ;)

cies

Okay that make 3 pll asking for Dates in every message. I'll probably have the date-in-every-message feature as an option: you will have to slightly edit a variable in the configuration part of the code. Or is it okay for you to have the date on top of every chat?

Finally, the first Kopete theme that I've liked. I too hate wasted space.

this style rocks! I have a minor issue/suggestion to make. The text always starts aligned with the screenname in the first line. But if my screen name is long, then it doesn't work. I'm not sure what the best way to handle that is, but the behavior should be consistent...

cies

yeah, this is an small issue. there is one thing you can do: change the screen name (right click the contact in the buddy-list and then its in one of the options) for the theme, right now with slightly long names the text gets intended (which is okay imo) but with really long names the name right alligns. well the theme cannot suit all. personally i hate the reaalllyyy long names, and i give short name to such ppl.

akemi

Now that there is the Google talk support in kopete, the long name issue appeared once. I can change my budiies names for the jabber account but as my name, my gmail adress is seen and is too long, and I cannot change that. So is there a way to change that??

cies

Sorry this issue remains... i cannot help that, it's a problem in Kopete -- a also noticed it. maybe see if there is already a bug report... i go to bed now, maybe i file a bug report tomorrow, but you can also do it (bugs.kde.org)

Thank you for this, I really like it. And: you can import this style with a nice name: just click import, paste the url, import it, copy it to a new name and delete the old one. The easiest way as long as khotnewstuff is not in stable, I think. liquidat

liquidat

the only thing I miss was the date in the timestamp, I added it for myself. Do you plan this for yourself? liquidat

cies

one wants seconds, another one wants the day in there... maybe i can add an easy configuration options for it (the way the colors are now 'easily configuratable') i'll see... personally i dont really see a use for it, i dont have many more than one day conversations. but if many ppl say here i really want it i'll consider defaulting to it. Cies Breijs. NOTE TO SELF: maybe make a tooltip with the extended date for the timestamp.

cies

The full timestamp should now be in a tooltip (hang over the time) and the point of copy/deleting the style to rename it is also in now... Thanks!

akemi

if this problem fixes, then it will be my favourite;) i know that my friend is using bold font but with efficient it is like normal....how can i edit it??

cies

You mean the text of the message body text? Is this problem also with other styles? If not let me know an other style that doesnt suffer from this problem and I will fix it... Thanks for the report! Cies Breijs.

akemi

yes i mean the message body. i saw that Clean (Kopete Chat Style) does not have this problem. thanks for the quick reply...

cies

i have a look ate the code as soon as i have the time

cies

can you please tell me which protocol (msn, aim, icq, jabber, etc) you are using? thanks.

cies

FIXED in 1.3 thanks for pointing out this bug to me! Cies Breijs

akemi

YES, now This is certainly my favourite style for kopete. Thanks for all your time and effort.

cies

your welcome... if you know anyone who uses kopete with right-to-left text :) i need someone like that to test.
