yes there are, but the ones i did it with are in german language.
however all you need is an applet called "Devil's Pie"
you can find it in the ubuntu repositories under "devilspie"
with some EASY changes in its XML-config-file the applet tells the terminal to start without any borders and to stay in the background all the time.
maybe there is a tutorial in your languages ubuntu forum.
if you have problems, i can send you my config-file via mail.
