Description: Aethera is a pim application, i.e. it handles all kinds of personal information: email, contacts, notes, tasks, todos, journals. It has various communication features regarding: send/receive email, send/receive task requests and appointment requests via email. It can help you to know quickly the world's news and weather.
Aethera promises a lot, but as long as it's only available via rpm-package, I will not use it. I have a distribution, which does not manage installed software with rpm, so I need to convert this rpm-package to a tar.gz, but I wonder why the author does not just release the sourcecode as a *.tar.gz !?
Ok, I must admit that I have already tried to convert this *.rpm to a *.tar.gz, but compiling did not work. I have read the instructions, but they told me steps to do, which I could not do, because of missing files or perhaps they have just different filenames. I don't really know but I don't have to know. This is the job of the author, not of me.
Sorry, but for the moment, Aethera seems to be strange for me :/.
You beat us to the punch a bit, we got the entry set up on here before we had finished getting all the files available. If you go to www.sf.net/projects/aethera you will find all available platforms and information on what you need to install for Linux to run. Remember we have to be able to run across all distributions and window managers, so we have to do things in a certain way.
I have this working just fine under SuSE 9.0 but it should be made more clear that there are additional files needed to be installed to make it work. :)
I can't use it at the moment though because it won't import from my Thunderbird mail files. (it does to some extent but not everything is imported, that is out of 200 messages only 9 display) :(
Otherwise I love it!
I downloaded it from the main site but never got it to run due to something called tkl [or something like that! I'm not sure really what it is because I've deleted the program].
Maybe if the paths were fixed [instead of referring to 'theKompany'] and the missing file provided, then it might be useable and could be interesting.
With KDE 3.2 Kmail finally looks for email addresses for LDAP, when entering a name in the address fields. I haven't found anything regarding such a feature on the Aethera project pages.
Does this work with Aethera? It's a must feature for me.

pretty dire..... I can't find a way to either let it show other folders save Inbox, or in fact to change where Drafts, Sent-Mail etc should go....
