Description: This wizard will allow you to create a DVD from one or more DVD compatible MPEG-2 files. It is designed to be very easy to use. All you need to do is add one or multiple files to the playlist and answer the questions that follow.
You can add a menu that will contain animated thumbnails of the files in the playlist. Creating a menu is optional.
Features include:
* Playlist editor * DVD menu with multiple pages * Animated thumbnails in the menu * Customisable menu graphics * Add soundtrack from OGG or MP3 * Antialiased graphics prevent flickering on TV * Both Widescreen and standard 4 support * ISO DVD Image creation * MPEG2 DVD compatibility checking * Support for both PAL and NTSC menus
Just unpack the archive and run the 'Installer.kmdr' script. That's it!
Please contact me if you experience a problem.
-------------------------------------
*** IMPORTANT ***
Because ImageMagick developers keep changing the commandline syntax for every single version, the KDE DVD Authoring Wizard does not work with versions older than 6.1.0. Also, newer versions are not compatible with their predecessors. That's why you need to make sure that your DVDAuthor version is newer than ImageMagick, because it uses ImageMagick for menu processing.
Please send your complaints about this mess to the ImageMagick mailing list.Last changelog:

thanks to everybody
hi there,
thx for this awesome app.
it works great under fedora 7 and fedora 8.
i have just one small problem.
under fedora 8.
the system is updated
i can´t choose any font.
the pulldown menue, where you can coose the fonts for the title, shows nothing.
can you provide help?
many thx in advance and again thx for this great app.
cheers
g
At first, thanks for the good app.
Well, coming to the point, if I encode the video with 16:9 aspect ratio and check the compatibility using this app, it throws some warning. However, it says that the video is fully compatible if 4:3 aspect ratio is used in encoding. Could you please tell based on your experience if 16:9 will work or not on a DVD player?! I have no experience in this regard and also no DVD player and so I can't test it myself.
Thanks!!
downloaded 1.4.6, untarred, typed sh Installer.kmdr & got this error:

thought about looking @ the source...did look & couldn't see any obvious errors... then decided that was your job...also have fallback software so it's not crucial, but I'd like to try it out...

At "Menu Preview" when running preview it fails on a 9 min .vob file with:
Quote:
Whoops. Your Transcode version failed while generating frames from this video file:
file1.vob
Please check that this file contains at least 29 frames.
I'm sure the file has more than 29 frames. Thoughts?
Also, when I first ran the program it failed to run complaining that I didn't have konsole installed, so shouldn't konsole be a dependency?
scottme, I've found a working solution to the ISO problem. Use the wizard until you get to the ISO creation step, after finalization. Then exit the wizard. Open KB3, and select "New DVD movie project".
It'll open to a DVD file structure, with "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS"
Go to the directory that the wizard set up the DVD in, you'll have the same folders. Drag and drop the contents into the proper folders in the KB3 project. From there you can either make an ISO or just burn it directly. I tested my DVD in my old PS2, which is pretty picky, and it worked just fine.
NOTE: Don't worry if the "AUDIO_TS" folder is empty, this is for additional audio tracks, etc. Mine was empty and the movie had perfect sound.
I think what the problem is is that the commands the wiazrd runs to do this step automatically must be broken, or path dependent. The wizard can't find Xine on my machine either, but it works just fine.
I was able to install it and get it to work, but I like Todisc and DVDStyler better. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to uninstall the software. My OS is ubuntu feisty and the KDE DVDauthor Wizard does not show up in the synaptic package manager. I used Kommander to install it. If I am supposed to use Kommander to uninstall the program, I can't figure out how to do that either. Any assistance is very much appreciated.
Please, please, please don't stop development on this!
This is one field sorely missed in Linux, professional DVD authoring. I just shelled out $80 for a app similar to this to use on windows since qDVDauthor has become quite useless....
DO NOT STOP DEVELOPMENT, PLEASE!
Hey, Thank's for the nice the app. I have a Q. How can I change the size of the fonts that show on the 'Title' & 'subtitle'? The subtitle should really be smaller than the title!
Cheers
Great application, and huge thanks for making it *almost* trivial to create a DVD.
I have a couple of problems maybe you can help me with. I'm using four mpeg2 files I built from DVB streams; I used ProjectX to demux them and mplex to re-multiplex to ".mpg" files that each look fine, in that they play well in Kaffeine with nicely sync'ed audio. So far so good.
Using KDE DVDAuthor Wizard I made a nice menu, and got as far as creating the DVD structure on disk, but now the problems start. The message asks if I would like to test the DVD by playing and when I say yes it fails because it doesn't find xine. But xine is installed:
mark@mest40:~$ xine --version
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.4.
(c) 2000-2004 The xine Team.
No matter, I find I can play it using Kaffeine to open any of the .vob files.
Sadly the wizard function to create an .iso doesn't seem to work. I click the button and nothing happens. No messages either.
So I use k3b to burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to DVD-R (or DVD+R, I tried both!), and the resulting disk won't play on the PC, it won't play in a Panasonic DVD-recorder (disk not recognized), but it does play in another el-cheapo supermarket DVD player; however there's no sound.
This is all very frustrating since it's so close to being exactly what I need. Any advice or suggestions for this total newbie?
I'm running Kubuntu 6.1, fully up-to-date I believe. Happy to supply any diagnostic info that's needed.

I guess you forgot to install the graphical part of Xine, which is sometimes shipped seperately named xine-ui. The wizards needs the GUI part, so you can test everything interactively.
As for the ISO creation: Maybe you can send me the DebugOutput file generated by the wizard?

I'm running Kubuntu 6.1, fully up-to-date I believe. Happy to supply any diagnostic info that's needed.

Is this project dead? A QT4 port would be nice.
Thanks for such a good app. Unfortunelly, I doesn't work with latest versions of Sox (13 & 14) nor Transcode (1.0.6). Do you plan a new release?
I'm using Debian Experimental and KDE 4. I was using KDE3 and this program ran perfectly, after I've installed KDE4 from Debian Experimental Repositories and now I can't create the DVD. In the log-file I obtain an error in MPLEX. Mandriva 2008.0 i686 rpm here: http://mandriva.99k.org/
how can i define chapters? thanks
Thanks!!

first: install * Kommander >= 1.0 (part of kdewebdev >= 3.3.0) * ImageMagick 6.2 or 6.3 * MJPEGTools * Sox * DVDAuthor >= 0.6.11 * Transcode second: $ kmdr-executor Installer.kmdr
At "Menu Preview" when running preview it fails on a 9 min .vob file with: Quote:Whoops.
It'll open to a DVD file structure, with "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" Go to the directory that the wizard set up the DVD in, you'll have the same folders.
Any assistance is very much appreciated.
can you add this option?
is it possible to define the chapters? thanks
In the package, you find a text file that explains how to do this.
Cheers
Only by editing the script. Making the main title really long also makes it become smaller.
But xine is installed: mark@mest40:~$ xine --version This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.4.
See below for a how to do this step by hand.

I guess you forgot to install the graphical part of Xine, which is sometimes shipped seperately named xine-ui. The wizards needs the GUI part, so you can test everything interactively. As for the ISO creation: Maybe you can send me the DebugOutput file generated by the wizard?

Pardon me but I am very new to this. How would I run the Installer.kmdr script?
