Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
Some of the features offered are call waiting, call hold, 3-way conference call, call transfer, and call reject. It supports STUN or a statically configured public IP address for NAT traversal. When using STUN, it will send keep-alive packets to keep NAT bindings alive. It supports ZRTP for secure voice communication.
- Integration with Diamondcard Worldwide Communication Service
(worldwide calls to regular and cell phones and SMS).
- Show number of calls and total call duration in call history.
- Show message size while typing an instant message.
- Show "referred by" party for an incoming transferred call in systray popup.
- Option to allow call transfer while consultation call is still in progress.
- Improved lock file checking. No more stale lock files.

I've been having trouble running Twinkle with KDE4. Using MDV 2009.1 and now on Cooker. Problem: the first call is fine, audio works. After the first call though I often have to do a full reboot for audio to work. Otherwise, Twinkle will just go completely silent. Looking at Pulseaudio it does not recognise any outgoing audio -or in fact any incoming audio either. Any news on Twinkle for KDE4 by any chance?
Start Twinkle with this command: "padsp twinkle" and set sound/audio ouput in Twinkle to /dev/dsp Other applications like Amarok may block Twinkle. So close them if you want to phone somebody.
Problem found. Alsa settings work fine actually..... Reason why it stopped working after the first call: I had NAT not needed. I changed that to the static IP address, and after that there were no more audio problems......
Will you port this app to Qt4? It's almost the only linux VoIP application that work with my provider.
I like twinkle very much. A Qt/KDE4-port would be really great. Thanks for that nice application!
Yes, I want to migrate Twinkle to Qt4/KDE4. I cannot promise when this will be done.
For me it works fine under KDE4
Works, but not completely. At startup plasma crashes, and the system tray icon places itself on the desktop, not in te system tray. No pop up for icoming calls either... Twinkle is by far the best softphone around, and it would be really great to have a KDE4 version.
Hi Michael, also my gratulations for the great Twinkle app! I'm addicted to it... Any news regarding KDE4 port?
Hi, I using twinkle on slackware-12.0 and it works well. Great job ! I would like to use it in french but, dispite i located the french file, I don't know how to use it. Something to add in ~/.twinkle/twinkle.sys ? I found nothing with twinkle --help... Thanks for 'more' help :)
It didnt compile so on my redhat linux , still trying to figure it out , -k -p build options rite?
I have some problems on Kubutu Edgy to compile Twinkle. checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! I have tried ./configure --disable-qt-check, but it still makes the test (same message) ! Of course, libqt-mt is installed: /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3.6 /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3 /usr/share/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 /usr/share/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3 So, no solution for the moment.
You need the package libqt3-dev
Thanks, but this lib was intalled. I have found the problem (sorry to report this so late): it was a problem with commoncpp2, after the make install, I have made a ldconfig and it worked. It was hard to compile, but it is a pleasure to use :-)
A Slackware 11.0 package is ready to download! www.slacky.it http://www.slacky.it/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=29&func=fileinfo&id=632
Hello mfnboer! i can try to translate to arabic if you want
Debian unstable 686 (0.8.dfsg-1, thanks Mark Purcell!) to asterisk across nat works after a bit of tweaking nat_public_ip. Recommend register_on_startup=no because with =yes, user/password msgbox doesn't show up, instead "Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x7fa)!" and twinkle hung. With that glitch out of the way, it works nicely.
Nice App! How can I bring it to interact with kadressbook? Would be great.
When you build Twinkle on a KDE machine, then the KAddressbook interface should be available (the address button next to dial)
Sorry, this function is available yet, but I`d like to click on a number in kadressbook and do a call automatically. Ist this possible?
Yes, put this command "twinkle --call %N" in the phone script hook in the configuration settings of KAddressbook. Optionally you can add the "--immediate" flag (see twinkle --help)
i can translate to polish if u want
Thanks. I first have to externalize all texts before they can be translated.
I bet the software is good, problem is I couldn't even try it :( I installed, run the configuration part, then it crashed. Now everytime I try and run it I get a segfault message. Tips?
Hi, Twinkle is a very nice app., but it is on my kubuntu very unstable, like the last version ( 0.62 ? ). I had suddenly crashes, without using the softphone, only in standby. I would appreciate a more stable version, because I think you did a great work!
