[2010-09-30[ BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 Released

BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 has been released by Matt Rogers. Go get it!

[2010-03-23] BasKet 2.0 Beta 1 Released

The BasKet project is proud to announce the release of version 2.0 beta 1. This version serves as a pre-release version for developers and distributors and should not be considered suitable for a production system. BasKet 2.0 will be a new major release which brings Qt4 and KDE 4 compatibility to BasKet and paves the way for future releases which take advantage of KDE 4 technologies such as Akonadi and Nepomuk. Due to the pervasive nature of these changes, there may be inevitable bugs in some features of the new release. However, the new version is in many ways more stable and robust than previous releases (especially when running on the KDE 4 platform) and users are recommended to switch to the new version when it comes out.

We hope to release version 2.0 within a few months.

Previous versions of BasKet, which depended on KDE 3 libraries, are now considered deprecated and will no longer be maintained.

Is this project still alive? It's not in Fedora23 anymore :-/ (I had to find an external package). If dead, any alternative? Any way to export content?

There are some recent updates at https://github.com/basket-notepads/basket

Still unmatched for free-form note taking on an infinite canvas. Grouping/tagging/filtering. Way ahead of its time, and still superior to the alternatives despite being an abandoned project. I hope that one day someone picks up this project and adds cloud sharing and compiles it across platforms for better collaboration.

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=basket-devel&max_rows=25&style=nested&viewmonth=201303 Now the maintainers are actually planning to announce that it was abandoned. Really hope somebody will pick it up - and maybe rewrite it in Qt5?? :-)

Yes, please, this project needs new developers who continue or start a new beginning. The best thing would be a complete state of the art code rewrite on Qt 5 basis or better on Frameworks 5 basis. A state of the art note taking application like BNP would be so great. No Microsoft OneNote or KJots anymore. Dreaming of it since years...

alvanx

Oh that would be awesome. Though it seems like they still haven't made up their minds. If I can add one more item to your wishlist: online sync so I can use the same software on different systems. :-)

Strahlex

Start a crowd-funding campaign. I would definitely bake it. It even could contain some cloud stuff syncing baskets and stuff (business people like cloud stuff).

This kind of application is kind of a gap in the market. A QML rewrite should be kickstarted.

This program is no longer supported. It is not only not the best in the category, but it can cause problems that will not be fixed. I cannot even uninstall it. (CherryTree will import the files and arrange them almost exactly as they were before, even when Basket cannot open its own files.) It is strongly advised that one not install or attempt to use it. And all references to promoting it should be removed from the Internet.

Is there a way to make donations to this project?

Holmes245

Or maybe just make it a paid app? That way, it won't be abandoned like most open source software is?

Strahlex

There is a lot of good and maintained software out there most supported by companies. However a note taking application seems to be no stuff serious enough to maintain and to develop even Google has closed down their note taking service. Weird because many would like to pay for such an application. Open source does not mean it has to be free. I definitely would be pay 1€/m subscription for a good note taking application on linux and I think many users would.

Hello, I recently discovered BasketNote and now I use it as my default note taking application. It is still missing a windows version (I would like to use it at work too). Unfortunately it seems to be now "at Drydock" for two years.

m00nraker

Hi, is Basket Note Pads currently unmaintained? Last entry on the dev mailing list (sourceforge) is of Nov 2011. Will there be a final 2.0 or is it stuck? Who knows anything?

Holmes245

To be honest, I'm not surprised. Every developer who develops a open source software and then abandons it provides a reason for not using open source software. I was looking to move over to Linux and this was one of the apps I was looking at to possibly be an alternative to OneNote but nope - just another abandoned app. Linux is more work than it's worth - sticking to Windows/Mac. Thanks to the developers of BNP.

When I try to use this feature, the screen locks up. The esc key to quit does't work and the enter key does not put the selected screen zone into the basket. The only way to move forward it seems is to do a ctl-alt-delete and logoff. I am running Ubuntu 11.10, KDE 4.7.3, and Basket of Notes 1.81. I installed Basket from the Ubuntu Software Center. KDE as well. I am also running a dual screen setup and the screen clipping is coming from monitor 2 while basket is running on monitor 1. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong? Thanks, Steve

Hi, This is awesome app. Its design is beautiful . I miss cloud sync button in this app (may be google or something else.) . Also I find no ability to search notes in all the baskets in one go.

Hi, just sharing this, I see that more than a few are having this problem when building where Gpgmepp is not found. The path is not upper-case in at least some systems. Maybe you could add this alias to your script? Cheers, and thank you SO much for working in this application! :)

Using 1.8.1 on openSuSE 11.3 under GNOME and it reports KDE 4.6.0 being used. I got caught once again by your Backup Restore dialog and am unable to get back to where I was or to figure out how to do it. What I wanted to do: Set a backup location in a preexisting directory on a different physical drive. What I did not want to do: change the location where Baskets stores its files. What Baskets did: Changed the location where it keeps the files to my preexisting directory on the different physical drive leaving the current files in ~/.kde4/share/apps/basket/baskets Now I cannot change back because the .kde directory is not visible in your backup/restore dialog. Nor can I somehow import the old files/baskets into the new location using Baskets for the same reason. How can I get back to using the normal directory and the files it already contains?

thanks, if i switch back to basket i'll give that a try. unfortunately i decided to abandon basket a while back as it doesn't seem to be being activley developed, a shame as i like the layout and features. now using cherrytree, which shows a lot of promise.
