Hi man, I was wondering how to actually get the window in the sidebar... Cheers, Maqueo
This looks really handy, now I have a real reason to upgrade. One question, why are there two enties for this on the site?
mmmm so spiffy... I wish more software was universal sidebar compatible. Look at programs like 'kate' and 'quanta' that use *lots* of sidebars... ultimately, putting all that stuff in universal sidebars would eventually allow us to reclaim a lot of wasted screen space. its nice to see kopete catering to desktop-space-conservationalists like me! =D
works very nicely - should come as part of the kopete package itself. thanks!
Very cool, indeed, I've tried kopete only to use this(I'm still using gaim even on kde3.2) Now the universal toolbar(and kde!:-) only need a decent device manager(to mount umount them without going to the desktop or using an applet!) and a good network browser(that can handle smb and nfs shares) Ps. There is a way in kopete to see when the other user is typing? gaim does it
Kopete does show when some one is typing - along the bottom bar
In KDE 3.2 you can mount devices and browse network from the konqueror.
To use Samba networks, just type smb:/ into the Konqi address bar (only one slash) and let rip. Works for me :)
It looks good! In fact, I've been thinking about this for a loooong time :-) I can't test it since I don't run KDE 3.2 for now, does it embed the conversations in the bar too?
No, though it could. I'm not sure I can really think of why exactly you'd want that. Could you explain that to me?
Sure: I often find myself contacted while I'm working on some task involving lots of windows/virtual desktop switching (usually coding or playing with GIMP). In these situations, I tend to set my chat window always-on-top and visible-on-all-desktops but it often get in the way of one of my "work" window. Having the chat window docked would prevent that.
I probably wouldn't use that, however, I'll look at implementing something similar in the future. Perhaps a simple configuration dialog which allows you to choose whether chat windows are embedded? To save space how does having the windows tabbed at the bottom sound?
Would be really great!
I think it would be a good idea to allow conversations windows to be inside. For example, what if your buddy list is only half a screen's height? The bottom half is wasted space. I can imagine tabs on the bottom/top of the conversation window and the conversation window most likely at the bottom. Hmm... maybe if you can pull a tab outside of Universal Kopete so only some are tabbed. It seems like a lot of work. I wish I knew how to use KDevelop. I get a bunch of errors, but I'd try help. I haven't used it yet, but I'm waiting for 3.2 to finish downloading so that I can try it. I just installed Kopete after using gaim for a while (I got tired of Yahoo not working) and I find Kopete to be very nice. I'll have to give it more time, but so far it looks good.
